It's political pandering. When you visit the Urban League and the NAACP, you throw in a few "African Americans" in your speech. When you visit the NRA, you throw a few "gun owners" in the speech. When you visit a Bob Jones University, you throw in a few "Christians" in your speech. When you visit Wall Street, you throw a few "job creators" in your speech. It's simply an attempt to connect with the audience and if your goal is to win their favor (which is pretty much the point of campaigning for political office) then it's required. Specifically, he mentions a "White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans" as the subject of the OP's ire. The White House also has an Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, American Indian and Alaska Native Education and Tribal Colleges and Universities. It took me a grand total of ten minutes to learn this. What he needs now is a White House Initiative on Intellectual Laziness for Angry White People...
