Miles vs Petrino: An outsiders perspective

As a Bammer, I feel I can provided an unbiased (for the most part) perspective on these two men. First Miles:
Miles adopted a winning, legacy class program from Saban. Saban had pretty much built it from the ground up, so Miles had to simply step in the program and keep things rolling. I don't find him a particularly intelligent coach, but a coach capable of getting good coordinators. For the most part, the success of the program provides the recruits. Obviously, he has made his share of stupid calls. However, if you are honest with yourself, the seemingly stupid calls usually work out. I think his OC and DC have saved his butt countless times. Miles reached a new low today, when he attempted to run the score up on an obviously defeated team. Try to justify it if you want, but the undisputed number one team in the country NEVER has a valid reason to show that level of poor sportsmanship and lack of class. It gives the appearance that the coach has stooped to the level of his fan base.

Petrino: did not walk into an established program. Petrino took over a team that had been coached by an impotent leader. The team was mediocre, at best, and required being built from the ground up. Petrino has shown nothing but class since arriving, and has kept moving forward each year. He has gained the respect of the players and the fan base, and been the primary reason that the debates have changed from "how to have a winning season" to "how win the National Championship". Admittedly, his response to Miles poor sportsmanship didn't make him look that great. However, I have to appreciate that he abhors behavior like Miles' and that he cares that much for his team. Personally, I believe Petrino to be a superior coach to Miles. The big difference is Miles got to ride on someone else's heels. Nothing recruits better than a successful program. I believe Petrino is making that happen. I personally feel that better players (and even better coordinators) will be attracted to his program. If Saban left today, I would take Petrino over Miles in a heartbeat.

Bama fan calling himself unbiased is an oxymoron. :geauxtige

Phuck you and your hate for miles. Auburn calling out other teams and coaches are a joke. Your players smoked cigars in tiger stadium while stomping the eye out in the center of the field. Your team chop blocked Dorsey , trying to end his career. And Cam Newton was paid to play at auburn but money covered it all up and you got away with it. You are butt hurt at the anal rapeing lsu handed you this year. Again I say, from the bottom of my heart, with the most sincere intentions- phuck you.

On a related note, Saban walked into a well established program as well. Saban has been known to make bone-headed decisions(fake punt in NCG, trying a 49-yard FG vs LSU when his kicker sucks and it's a field position game, sending a returner with a sprained ankle to return a punt late in the 4th vs. LSU, I could go on. Those are just the ones that come to mind) and have good coordinators to back him up as well. This is all just sour grapes b/c he knows his team is about to lose to LSU for the 2nd time this season. See ya in New Orleans gump.

The LSU program MADE Nick Saban, not the other way around. Saban won the 2003 BCSCG with DiNardo's players.

Saban never beat Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, and Bama in the same year. Miles is about to add Georgia to that list AND Bama a SECOND time.

A good coach is one that 1) recruits well 2) hires well 3) keeps his kids in line and 4) manages the game.

Les for the most part does all four…now he has had his problems with two of those four at times, but not to the scale that other major programs have lately.

I've been pro-Les from the start and never have understood the hate.
