nootch, 09- ULL, washington, tulane, la tech 08- app st, UNT, troy, tulane you don't think west va, UNC, mcneese, ULM are a better quartet than the last two seasons?? when was the last time LSU played two ooc quality opponents in the same regular season? i'll play bastrop and evangel every year if LSU puts two possible top 25 teams on the sched. 2 throw away games are better than 4
i like UNC and WVa and appreciate the effort. but we just told toolame to geaux get phucked, and added mcneese st on the same day. seriously, there wasn't a MAC or SunBelt school available? what about the WAC or MWC? C-USA even? bottom feeding BCS school?
One thing to keep in mind when scheduling- You don't want to "over schedule". Remember, we have several big conference games every year. You win some, and you lose some. Ask Auburn, even in a down year, you want enough winnable games on your schedule to AT LEAST make it to a bowl game. Playing UNC in Atlanta and WV at Tiger Stadium in 2010 are great ideas, as long as we win . You have to look at the downside also. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
I gotta agree with Nootch here. That's a lame azz move by our athletic department to drop the green puke for McNeese. Dont understand the thinking behind that AT ALL.
apparently we exist to sustain the athletic programs of all colleges in la, bring on the SLU Lions!!!! i know what you're saying, to me, the good of adding two quality opponents outweighs the bad of adding mcneese instead of florida atlantic or someone like that.
I think trading UNC and ULM for Southern Miss is fine. We are also playing West Virginia that season. So that would have been 3 easily losable games non-conf. I know, I know, wer'e LSU, we should win every week, but you have to pick your battles. You don't want to deal with Southern Miss with 2 top 15 schools on your schedule OOC.
WE DIDN'T DROP TULAME FOR MCNEESE. WE DROPPED TULAME FOR A GAME AGAINST NORTH CAROLINA IN THE GEORGIA DOME TO OPEN THE SEASON. TULAME WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED ON THAT DATE AND ESPN OFFERED US A PRIME TIME TV SLOT AND A QUALITY OPPONENT. LSU DID WHAT IT HAD TO DO TO GET IN THAT GAME. Plus, our AD says we need 7 home games a year to make the money's work. If you look at the first date of the 2011 season, there isn't an opponent listed. I'm guessing, we're going to attempt to find someone to play us in Dallas/Houston TX. So, playing 1 quality opponent at a neutral site to start the season, plus a home-and-home vs WV, a road trip to Tulame in either of the next 2 years wasn't going to work. We get our 7 home games, plus a quality BCS opponent at a neutral site, and its a win-win for LSU. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
we'll just have to disagree then. LSU (and the SEC as a whole) are already laughed at for weak OOC schedules. USM asked us to move the game, so i can't bitch much about losing them, but you'll never convince me that there wasn't an equally winnable 1a team out there we could have played. yes i do
i guess we will, i think two teams like UNC and west va on the sched will be one of LSU's better OOC schedules in a while. nothing to laugh at except the FCS school which i think is sort of forgivable when very few sec schools outside of UGA (ok st, GT) play more than one quality ooc opponent every year. would you be happy if we replaced ULM and mcneese with a miami of ohio and memphis? i really can't remember when LSU played two decent ooc teams in one year. you'd probably have to go back to the a&m, fla st, miami days of the 80's.
yeah i'd be happier with Miami (OH) and Memphis a lot happier. Hell i know florida doesn't play Miami every year, but there was more than once that florida played them when both were top 10 the same year.
