Red , you have done well in your life because you made good decisions and investments. Some people would say you were lucky. You are not lucky. You were smart. You deserve what you have. Why should someone who didn't be as smart as you deserve to have your wealth distributed to them? Many people would say you are rich and you don't pay enough. You were born with advantage and were too lucky. I say you deserve to keep your money and those who didn't do as good a job in life have to learn to do better. This is a conservative stance. Liberals think you need to redistriibute your well earned wealth to those who wernt as lucky as you. They fail to see the thousands of hours you studied and all the work you did wasn't luck.
What about the millionaires and billionaires who don't mind a Clinton era tax rate, Who are actually calling for it? People like you can sit there and say those nice things all you want, but in Washington, rich people = campaign contributions. If you think for one second any republican or democrat cares about Americans you are on crack. What they care about is their job, and the people who fund their campaign. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Conservatives fail to see that the tax cuts for the wealthy was the biggest wealth redistribution in modern history. They widened the gap between them and the middle class and are gaining since the tax cuts. Moderates try to find balance points amid rigid-minded extremists.
Noone in the middle class had to give up anything they earned in order for the rich to pay fewer taxes. This only matters if you care about how much somebody else has.
red have you ever noticed that in everything, there are people that are decent, and then people that are off the charts good, and thats just the nature of things? there are fellas like me and you who cant hit a single major league home run, and then there is a tiny batch of just thousands of guys in the history of the world that have all of the home runs. and most people cant even run a 9 minute mile, but there are guys who are getting faster and faster and are significantly under 4 minutes now. and so in every human endeavor, the gap between the normal and the extraordinary is HUGE. and that is not a problem. it doesnt make the poor any worse off that the rich are rich any more than it makes us slower for usain bolt being faster than anyone, and widening the gap. so given economic freedom, some folks will go wild and make billions, while the majority will just do ok. and the gap, again, is not relevant. you shouldnt look to close the gap, ever. you should only look to make sure everyone is doing ok, which they are, and will do even better if you leave their employers (the rich) alone.
