He probably meant (I hope he meant) coming out of HS. And he's probably right, there hasn't been someone like Andre in the entire country in recent memory.
I'm just overreacting. Hannah is one of 3 bama players that I really like, and when you have sold your soul, you can get a bit testy when defending that piece of turf.
Lee Roy Jordan and Johnny Musso. I was a little young to know of Jordan at Bama, but was in awe while he was with the Cowboys.
Couple of good people there. I had guessed it would come down to those two including the possibility of players like Pat Trammel, Dwight Stevenson with an outside chance of Ozzie Newsome. Talk about anal...I've got several tapes of Bama when Jordan was playing.
It's a toss up between Dwight Stephenson and John Hannah IMO. A couple of perennial All-Pros. Maybe John Hannah gets the nod due to longevity, but both players were recognized as the best in the NFL at their position. They were both of similar build, Stephenson a center and Hannah a guard.
Of the three you mentioned, Dwight Stevenson would be the first to add to my list, next Trammel, then Newsome. Hannah was Hannah, but the other guys were ones that you would look at and think that you could beat, and you would be wrong. I have always admired their sportsmanship and I have never heard anything bad about how they conduct their personal life.
Interesting NFL Hall of Fame fact: USC and Notre Dame are tied for the most players in with 10. Michigan is next with 7, then Alabama, Ohio State, and Illinois have 6. LSU has 3 (Yelberton Abraham, Jim Taylor, Steve Van Buren) and Auburn has a sole member, Frank Gatski.
