obviously he wouldve been much better off doing neither the combine nor proday. youd think theyd have an idea how they would perform.

Maybe his agent should have done a better job.

It is not one workout sinking him.

In order: Asked to return home for breaking team rules during the week leading up to the Sugar Bowl, showing up at the combine out of shape, not impressing in limited workout, then went missing at the combine to find out he left without telling anyone. So no personal interviews were performed by scouts.

His comment after that was he was going home early to get in shape for Pro Day.

He shows up to Pro Day out of shape once again and puts out another horrible performance.

Scouts basically have seen poor power, lacking skills, no motivation, poor work habits which I am sure has translated to character risk.

I do not see him dropping out of the draft and could still go the 1st day if a few teams decide to take a risk. I would take that risk in the 3rd or 4th round.

I agree, but you totally missed my point....that being, the NFL seems to put way too much stock in these manufactured workouts over how their prospects perform in actual football games, despite the fact that they repeatedly get burned for it.

Much ado about absolutely nothing. He's still going in the top 15. His performance ON THE FIELD doesn't lie. This is just typical off-season fodder.

Wait, an o-lineman is fat? Shawn Andrews had similar criticisms, and I'm pretty sure he turned out fine. This is just typical baiting by the media and bad-mouthing by scouts that hope he falls to them.

maybe he's smarter than anyone. perhaps he's doing this on purpose to be drafted late in the first round to go to a good team instead of top 5 and be drafted by a lousy team? :)

Except now he may not get picked in the first round at all.

I agree. Someone will take a chance on Smith. He has been too successful to write off. For some reason he has performed poorly in NFL trials and perhaps needs some special coaching.

For every case you show me of getting burned, I'll show you two cases of these "manufactured workouts" saving a team from a mistake. They certainly get burned but they also weed out the gino torettas and jason whites of the world.
