Shocking developments. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...ith-s-draft-freefall-continues?urn=nfl,147436
His name should be Andre Vick because it seems like he is determined to throw away money and his life.
There is hope for Vick: Michael Vick could have a home in the UFL There has been some confusion about whether the new United Football League, which is scheduled to begin play this fall, would welcome Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, assuming he has completed his prison term and assuming he was not picked up by any NFL team. The answer: Yes,Vick would be welcome to play in the UFL, according to the league's commissioner, Michael Huyghue. http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/football/bob_blog/2009/03/michael_vick_could_have_a_home.html
I think that article is a bit of a hack job. Gill Brandt had an interesting write up about Smith on NFL.com that was not anything like this thing. I also heard on ESPN radio that Smiths position drills were outstanding even though his weight work and stuff was sub par. I've seen enough of Andre Smith to know he is a good prospect and wont go undrafted. There is no question he hurt himself but he hasnt fallen out of the draft.
I had two thoughts: Why? Isn't it worth your valuable time to find out that "possible number one overall pick" might be a bust? Second thought....why do people who want to play in the NFL even bother to play college ball anymore? I know, I know, the rules say....but my point is this. This guy spent two years being one of the most dominant players at his position in college football, declared a "possible number one overall pick" due to that performance. One bad workout with a set of barbells and suddenly he may not be worth drafting at all? How many average college football players suddenly became first round picks by turning heads at the Combine, only to quickly become first round busts when they got on the field. Anyone remember Akili Smith, Donte Stallworth, Mark Malamuga (something like that, I can't remember his exact name because HE WAS A BUST!)? Great workout guys, but they couldn't play football! How many times do things like this have to happen before they drop that sham called The Combine and go back to evaluating football players based on the way they play football?
18 year olds cannot play in the NFL. They don't have the physical/mental maturity no matter how much it seems like they do. Maybe one or two a year could do it imo. What I'm saying is, if you drafted kids straight out of high school, all you would do is have a bunch of guys get cut or have to start some sort of d-league.
