The trend that bothers me is how we didn't take a QB except for RP over a course of 3 years then kicked him off the team. Then Lee turns out to be a dud, so that's basically 4 years we went without getting a QB.
It was impossible for us to drop below #18. We were #13 in both polls and we played a Penn State team ranked #9/#11 (and they only beat us on a last-minute FG). Every Top 25 team ranked below us lost, expect for 5. Even if all 5 of those teams jumped us, that would have put us at #18. It turned that we only got jumped by 4 of those 5, which is how we finished at #17 in both polls (the team that didn't jump us was #23/#24 Utah... they only moved up to #18/#18).
The program has not been set far back. We're a top-20 team, for Heaven's sake! I think the Perrilloux situation put a two-year hole in our quarterback succession which has delayed another run for a trophy, but most of the teams in the country would love to trade places with LSU today, so I'm just not buying that LSU is set WAY back, We will have two experienced juniors next year with a new passing game coordinator which will not hurt. Still, signing Shepard as a quarterback may have hurt us if it scared away a passing quarterback last year, since Shepard appears to be no candidate to succeed anybody at QB. It's time he decided to focus on become a staring slot back and receiver. And Les must sign two serious QB candidates next year so we don't get too thin.
Now I didn't say we can't win with Miles. I said "with the coaching staff as is I dont see us winning another NC" (ie the anchor around our neck GC and Stud) I think if we fix these two problems we can right this thing.
I guess if you go by the polls prior to the game then yea I get you. I was looking at it as a new poll not really constrained by the previous ones. My fault.
