Like most everyone else on this board, and probably in the LSU! nation, I was horribly disappointed in the loss to Arkansas and I also question the seeming lack of discipline on this year's squad and worry about the potential (remember said potential) decline from the national stage. Then, earlier today, I celebrated my son's second birthday and, because of travel plans next month, a very early Christmas with some members of my family. And I got an early Christmas present. A copy of Herb Vincent's  Football Vault. It's a history of the football program at LSU! from the beginnings in 1893 to 2007. It's done in a scrapbook format with reproductions of things like tickets, programs, a letter from Ronald Regan to an  football player etc. that can all be taken out of their holders and closely examined. It's a wonderful book and reminded me how much history and tradition there is in the LSU! program and reminded me of how lucky I've been to have been a :tigerhead fan since birth. If you get one as a Christmas present later this year, count yourself lucky. If you find them for sale, I'd suggest you buy one for every :tigerhead fan on your Christmas list. Yes I'm disappointed in this year's record, but now I'm also fired up. I'm a :tigerhead and I'm damned proud of my strong football program and the good times to come. :crystal::crystal: :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige
I saw this at Wal-Mart here and thought about getting one, but didn't get a chance to glance it over. So it's good huh?
Yeah, I especially like the "old" history, stuff before about 1970, and the pullouts. The two of those that I really like so far are a reproduction of the program of the 1916 game between LSU! and Mississippi A&M (y'know the school where Sly Croom just resigned). It looks like high school programs used to look back in the 80s when I was playing with ads for local businesses and a simple roster listing the players, position, number and weight. I'm amazed that the heaviest player on either team for this game was only 205 and he was a left guard. The  team for that year averaged 172 pounds where the Miss State team averaged 169. The other pullout that I really enjoyed was a reproduction of the official stat sheet from Billy Cannon's Halloween punt return game. LSU! only had 171 total yards that game while Ole Miss had 179. had four fumbles and LOST three of them. What's most impressive, though, is that Cannon had a total of 102 yards on 3 punt returns, including the one where he scored, AND he punted four times for 167 yards. (Ole Miss punted eight times for THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-FIVE YARDS.) But I'm a nerd when it comes to stuff like this. :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige
