Why stop the shuttle program? They still work. We do not have a replacement so why stop using the shuttle? This is just another sign of America in decline.
The greatest thing about the space program is the scientific and engineering breakthroughs that come from having some of the smartest people in the world working together. From computer technology to communication technology and many other things like Teflon and Kevlar. Americas space program was actually a good thing that is truely a sad thing to see in decline.
I guess we are just going to outsource to India or some other country. I don't know though, it's bittersweet, yes it's expensive, but our Space Program is one of the things that made this country the greatest country in history.
I was disappointed that the shuttle program had ended, but I've heard that parallel to NASA, the military had a second secret shuttle program. I could be wrong about that, but if true, at least America has an emergency system in place. This is very cool, and leaves me thinking that our expansion into space will continue. The shuttle was a good idea, but its been used for the last 10 years almost exclusively to transport personnel to and from the ISS. Its essentially been an 18-wheeler doing the work of a minivan.
