When have atrocities every done anything except make people harden their hearts? Did 9/11 make us want to pull out of the middle east? The Oklahoma City bombings totally backfired on the anarchist militia movement. All of the atrocities committed by Palestinians have gained them not one inch of sovereign territory. What did it gain Hitler or Tojo? What his gained Al Qaeda? If you imagine that torturing their families to death will make terrorists go back to herding sheep, you are dreaming. Really.
I have cooked with C-4 but no way I'm messing with willy p. That stuff gets crazy hot and contrary to what @red55 said it is not a primary smoke round. They have pots, canisters and shells that are smoke rounds. They work really well.
We got to train with M79 smoke rounds since they apparently had a shelf life. Much more fun to shoot than the orange powder practice rounds they gave us when we transitioned to the 203.
Perhaps I should have said artillery. Army engineers and tankers use many smoke generators and smoke grenades that are not WP. And for the artillery, WP is not the only smoke round, but it is the primary one, if DoD sources are to be believed. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/smoke.htm. Some confusion exists in media reports between the M825 WP smoke round and the M110A1 WP incendiary round. One makes dense, instant smoke, the other round makes longer lasting smoke and causes more fires. We used both rounds extensively in Fallujah as well as the Air Force Mk 77 incendiary bomb, which is no longer called napalm, but has the same effects. An article published in the March–April 2005 issue of Field Artillery, a U.S. Army magazine, noted that white phosphorus had been used during the battle. According to the article written by a captain, a first lieutenant, and a sergeant, "WP [White Phosphorus] proved to be an effective and versatile munition. We used it for screening missions at two breeches and, later in the fight, as a potent psychological weapon against the insurgents in trench lines and spider holes where we could not get effects on them with HE [High Explosives]. We fired "shake and bake" missions at the insurgents, using WP to flush them out and HE to take them out." Cough up that dollar, Bud.
Ha, sure enough. A technicality but ok. I can tell you this, as a combat engineer whose job routinely required smoke for concealment I'd be PISSED if they subbed WP instead. That shit is HOT
