Yes red. We played fair in every war after WW2. Use your old brain and you should understand what that means. Iraq is not a total war. If it was, it would have lasted 2 months. Neither is Afghanistan, neither was Vietnam, etc. We had strict ROIs when the enemy had none.
It's not so much about ROE, yes those are strict and at times hamstring us. They are enforced heavily. I see @red55 point but what he is failing to see is the evolution of war. At heart he is a liberal masquerading as one of those centrist so it's no surprise that he thinks we are despicable in our actions. I will have more on the land mines later on.
Then make it clear. What exactly are you talking about? I'm not as dumb as you think I am. Did you even read my post, Jethro? Who used the word despicable? NOBODY. I said perfectly clearly that I have no issues with our being ruthless at war and that we are as ruthless as anybody. The issue I had was with phony patriots claiming that we always "play fair", which is horseshit.
I served my country dipshit. Nothing phony about me. Currently awaiting an OCS board. Fair has a context. Something you clearly understand.
You know @red55 I really don't like the word "fair" I think it is misplaced here. So let's say we skirt the line of what is allowed or "legal". Do we make it blurry at times? Sure we do. I'm not a historian nor do I have knowledge of what was taught to our Soldiers in the 30's but I'd have to believe ethical behavior was always stressed. I do know that there are many accounts of our troops doing the right thing and a few like the Marine regiment that was cutting off the ears of the Vietnamese. Whole damn regiment got wiped out. 3rd I think it was. Bottom line, yeah we ruin a lot of days, we just do it with class. Usually
