Unprecedented crisis of trust' grips U.S. thanks to partisanship, social media http://www.oregonlive.com/trending/...rget2box_default_#incart_target2box_targeted_ High-profile politicians accept only the facts that advance their ideological positions. Americans increasingly get their news solely from partisan news sources. The president of the United States calls the mainstream media the “enemy of the people.” The result of this hyper-partisan, internet-driven era: trust among Americans -- in one another, in our institutions.... has collapsed. "The United States is enduring an unprecedented crisis of trust,"....."This is the first time that a massive drop in trust has not been linked to a pressing economic issue or catastrophe..... it's happening at a time of prosperity, with the stock market and employment rates in the U.S. at record highs....." The collapse in trust has happened with stunning velocity, the survey found. Trust among the “general population” in the U.S. has fallen nine points since the previous year’s survey, a huge drop. Americans’ trust in the world around them now ranks among the lowest of the 28 countries polled. Even Russians under the Putin regime have more trust in their government and other institutions than Americans have in theirs
Human beings in general are not mature enough to be trusted with social media. The political wing of that tool is a cesspool used for nothing but villifying (sp?) opposing points of view. No attempts to bring people together at all.
and one year of a President who at least half the country feels is vile. Plus a do nothing Congress that nobody likes,.. we're in deep shit, the two party system has failed us
Not so fast. We are more likely to have failed in our duty to hold our representatives responsible for things. Left and right we forgive things in our so called leaders that we wouldn’t accept in work, friends or families. Why? Because we think we agree with their politics. Look at all of those in both parties who have lied cheated and stolen from us. WE have lazy and have led us to this point by listening to the bombast and ignoring the person behind it.
It only now feels vile to "you" because your side lost. I have watched liberals call me a science denier, homophone, racist bigot for years only for themselves to be that which they "hate".
lazy for sure, though It's pretty hard to see past the thick facade our legislators hide behind. It needs to be torn down,.. dims/repugs aren't going to significantly change anything,.. a new power rising, a moderate "unity" party might shake things up.
I don't have a side you hate the dems, I know your view,.. and you know why I despise Trump,.. he's not the big problem though,.. Congress is.
