Let me have it if you may, but I was not at all impressed with Jefferson in the Spring Game. After re-watching the game, I am even more certain that the praise is simply the coach's way of building JJ's confidence.

I saw the exact same QB as I expected. After 27+ starts, you are what you are.

Jefferson refuses to let the ball go (a.k.a, doesn't trust what he sees.) In SEC play, most of his scrambles would have been a no gain or a sack. Its easy to gain yardage as a scrambling QB when you know you can't be hit.
Jefferson still takes off running without keeping his eyes down field. The pass to Ware was a great play by Ware. Who may I add was wide open and made a spectacular catch on an underthrown ball.

Other than a wide open Fobbs, who was so open that most posters on this forum should have been able to hit if they have ever played football.

Lee was well.......Lee. He made one hell of a pass to Boone, but Lee is always good for one or two hell-of-a passes. Lee looked nervous even in non contact action. Imagine his nerves when the bullets or live and the people who are tackling him aren't his friends.

Mettenberger was decisive, fit the ball into tight spaces, and on that 3rd and 9 stepped up into the pocket, kept his eyes downfield, and took the obvious scramble yards (to be fair, even Lee got some decent scramble yardage).

Being praised for a 4-12-1 and one performance doesn't cut it in my opinion.
So, in a live practice, our two senior, "veteran QB's" turned the ball over 4 times. I've been known to call our top two QB's, "Beavis and Butthead" and the spring game did very little to change my opinion.

I just feel that there is no way that over the next 5 months that either of those guys will be able to outperform ZM on a day to day basis.

I truly believe that Les knows that it is just bad coaching to hand a position to anybody, especially the QB.

    P.S.

    Spencer Ware is special.

Our defensive secondary makes me smile in my sleep.

Kinda what I was thinking although I am not in the B&B mode yet.. With all the praise for Jefferson I saw mostly the same old quarterback out there. The darn newspaper is always so positive that its hard to believe that they are seeing the same thing I am. 4 of 14 is not seperation in my opinion... Spring games are so vanilla that its hard to judge players. I do remember that last years spring game was a bad one for Jefferson. We won 11 games with these guys last year but got several lucky breaks along the way. That has a way of evening out & I don't expect us to be so lucky this year. Strange thing is that a ton of people in the know are picking LSU to win the SEC. So what do I know... :geaux:

A quote from the DandyDon site:

"While Mettenberger is an outstanding prospect, I do not expect to see him receive much playing time this season because of Miles' loyalty to his upperclassmen."

Many of you in this forum refuse to criticize Miles because of this loyalty. IMO, it reminds me of the coach who always gives his son preferential treatment because he is his son and not because of his ability to help the team. Then, his supporters say "What difference does it make? We're gonna win anyway." Well, deja vu to you!

Pete Maravich's dad did the same thing - Played him in spite of the fact that he averaged 44 points per game. Mmm that didn't help this situation did it?:dis:

I notice this was at 8:30 this morning. Friendly advice, finish the first cup and let the caffeine kick in before posting. That way the brain is awake.:yelwink2:

No Kirby, you are not crazy. I was under impressed. Looked like last year - damnit. Maybe it will make Oregon's defense over confident.

The secondary was part of the QBs problem - but not all. Still a lot of work to do. Anybody nervous?
    Yea me to.

I somehow don't get warm and fuzzies when I read of senior quarterbacks "showing progress."

There is still a lot of football practice before the games start. I pray we have our "best" qb on the field when the games begin.

What was that quote.."if you want seniority, join the army."

I'm nervous. Oregon won't torch us or anything like that, but they will score points. We will have to have a productice offense to win that game.
