I was going to say the same thing. Our lack of penalties was refreshing, and I noticed something else that was encouraging. The penalties were not only few, but not every kickoff or punt had an illegal block in the back. Man, since Miles has been here, it seems like his biggest problem has been special teams (punt returning) and sp. teams penalties. It happened a lot during the NC year and last year. It was good to see that whole game play out without a hold or illegal block in the back.
Remember...ST's was run by one of the Malveto twins, and they are gone this year. Maybe it's not Miles as much as it was him. (Can't remember which one...want to say Peveto).
I don't think it had anything to do with the officiating. LSU played a clean game and even SEC officials couldn't screw this up. Did I say that out loud just now?
id prefer to see more penalties by the D. too few is a sign of relative malaise. its the offense penalties (false start, holding, intentional grounding and illegal formation) that burn me up.
id like to see how it correlates with win% and championships. it seems that 2000-2007 LSU committed a lot of penalties. i also noticed OkSt doubled or tripled UGAs penalties Sat. and Miami and FSU were heavily penalized during their heyday.
This is an excellent point, as was Crip's questioning whether or not the game was better-officiated by the PAC-10 crew. Still, I was happy not to see a lot of procedural penalties, though the one on the goalline that cost us a TD was pretty bad. I'm with you that aggressive penalties don't bother me so much--in moderation, of course.
