Those are not the Golden Girls. They are the tigerettes from the 70's and before. Notice the batons in their hands. The Golden Girls didn't come about till the late 70's early 80's and there originally was only one for the year.

The tigerettes eventually phased out as baton twirling was no longer the thing to have. They were replaced by a dance team and color gaurd. This is why all the baton twirlers in the Alumni band are all 50ish or older.

Notice some schools still haven't got the message. The baton twirling is cool, but just not what a lot of people want to see and too prone to take away from the whole effect if one drops a baton because everyone is staring and hoping. That's part of the reason they used to not let the Drum Major toss the mase during pregame before he (she) salutes the press box.

I'm pretty sure the Golden Girls were around before the early 80's, though. I started going to games in the late 70's when I was in elementary school, and the Golden Girls were there then.

I don't have an exact date but I believe it was just before Wickes got there in 80. So late 70's would be correct. And I may have been mistaken about just 1, I think the just 1 golden girl was they only had 1 in Pregame initially.

But those in the picture are definately the Tigerettes.
