Tusk as I told you before, you I like, your Tide not so much. Congrats again on Bamas MNC, but be careful of how you boast about your euphoric pleasure, because when Bama starts to come back down to where they've been over the last 20 yrs the kicks to your head are gonna knock more than the euphoria out of you.
and how do you know that i did not? i have, and i have received a response. a very good response i might add. it was a little more than the generic "thanks for supporting LSU and its program, your continued support means the world to us here at LSU" response, too. it was more along the lines of LSU doing everything possible to maintain its spot as an elite program. of course i didn't babble and complain and bitch and moan to him about firing certain coaches. i named no names, and i delivered a succinct and concise appraisal of the state of the team. why? because he gives no damn about what some podunk 24-year-old thinks -- just like i don't really give a damn about his generic "Letter from Joe Alleva" that doesn't really say anything aside from the generic babbling athletic director-speak. LSU's offense is the hot topic right now, is it not? it's not that LSU had a winning record, it's that the offense was ranked 112. i'm not making that up. that's what's important. winning at LSU is almost automatic with the athletes and facilities that LSU has. why be complacent with 112? LSU will win at least 6 games a year just by showing up and playing, that's just how it is right now.
I'm going to tell you all a story that happened to me when I was just a puny freshman at LSU working in sports information. It was 1987 and LSU had just narrowly escaped with a 41-36 win over Tulane in the Superdome. It was a great duel between Hodson and Davis vs. Jones and Zeno. Walking off the Superdome turf with Ron Sancho after the game, we passed the chute to the Tulane lockerroom. There is hooting and hollering coming from the Wave lockerroom like they had just won the Super Bowl. Sancho turns to me and says, "You hear that? There's the difference between LSU and Tulane. At Tulane coming close is good enough." Strong words that reverberate today. Alleva's statement about "look how close we were" is 100% pure crap. At LSU it should always be about WINNING, and never about coming close. That kind of talk is for losers. Besides on the flip side, "look how close we were" to losing to Miss State, La. Tech and Arkansas and finishing 6-6. What a crock of crap from Alleva. That kind of statement is very disappointing and disconcerting to me.
Only one person in the entire country can accomplish what was wanted. I am sure you would have no problem feeling some appreciation for coming close to a nearly unachievable goal.
Yeah if i was climbing everest or something, but even then i would be pissed if i almost got there and didn't make it to the top. I don't think the guy should be fired, i think he has done the right things in the off season, its the in game decisions and player personnel choices that i have issues with.... but what do i know, i'm just a caveman.
if you have to "convince" or prop up your coach to the fan base with a pep talk, something is wrong. whoever your team is.. jus sayin..
I agree with everything JA is saying, we can do better and that is our goal. But playing the devil's advocate here grad, What did you expect him to say? he certainly wasnt going to throw Miles under the bus. Even if Miles was outright fired, LSU and our AD would handle it with tact I would hope. Natually, he has goals for Miles just like our employers have goals for us employees. I think this letter was as much for Miles as the fans. It basically let him know that the AD is on board with his leadership but that we need to re adjust our results and get a little closer to the mark.
