Using TC's post as a barometer, this hiring is most likely the furthest thing from "Politics" in the "Good ol boy" scenario and could be THE only postive thing about it to now.
Granted I really don't have any knowledge on the man but I do not think it is the worst hire of all time. The AD to me is sort of like the QB in that he gets too much praise and gets blamed too much sometimes. I realize it is still a very important position but he still has to work with many people that are proven successful leaders and understand the situation. I would imagine that he, like any man in this situation, would reach out to those that have local knowledge. A lot of AD hires around the country have followed this path too. Have a strong base in the AD office and have proven fundraisers within as well. I could be completely wrong but I do not think one man can wreck, nor build on the success that an entire university has -- it takes a larger group. Now if he alienates himself that could be a different story, but I would like to think that wouldn't happen.
I find it easier to trust a coach (vis-a-vis RP) than a search committee. I'm sure this will all work out. But you'd think LSU could attract a person with this guy's assets and without his immediate baggage. But hey - welcome big guy! Please fix basketball. Is it fixed yet? No? How 'bout now? No? Well. See. I knew it....
He won't last long.....the culture shock alone will kill him! He'll be looking for a way out soon enough.
There is nothing hidden with steve a. And I was probably being overly optimistic in my post. Oh well.
Chirst, are we still thinking Lombardi is our savior?? What the hell, I don't see how, with the reputation La. has, it could seem to be a good idea to bring in anyone involved in the Duke Lacrosse scandal. And if the Duke program is comprable to ours in size and monetary worth, then why did he want to come here?
