We are a reactionary rather than a progressive fanbase. There are always some great young coaches ripe for the picking but we won't consider them until they've proven themselves somewhere else. We could have had Spurrier in '86 but he had only been a HC for a few years in the USFL and had moderate success. This is the SEC, he hadn't proven he could recruit or coach college football. Duke and Florida rolled the dice and we saw how that turned out.

We could have had Jimbo in '05 but he wasn't proven. We wait until these young coaches with great potential make it at another program and then it's too late to get them as we saw yesterday. As all the Jimbo naysayers were saying, why would any coach want to leave another Power 5 school for LSU. The only time a school is likely to pick up one of these elite "proven" coaches is when they are between jobs. Do you think Saban would have left LSU for Bama - hell no. And Patterson, Briles, Shaw et al aren't leaving their schools for LSU. But young up and comers like Fuente and Herman would give a nut to coach at LSU. Even when it comes to coordinators LSU fans are so picky we get stuck with retreads like Steele and Cameron. We're always going to be the "what could have been" football program.

If Alleva knows anything at all he should have known that Jimmy Sexton was going to work it from both angles to get every penny he could out of the highest bidder. He should have come to the table with a blank check or had a backup plan. Now he is the most hated man in Baton Rouge.

Exactly there were a lot of viable options. Honestly I'd rather a younger coach than Jimbo, I'm not sold on him. There was Herman, Franklin, Shaw, Smart, Fuente, etc.

Herman or Smart is probably the likely choice at UGA.

Alleva isn't that bright nor has that much freedom.

So all of this big money talk and in the end they didn't want to pay Jimbo what he wanted?

btw, the QB recruit Franks committed to Florida today, a team who's offense scored 0 points on Saturday
