All-Maineiri Baseball Team I'm bored and I've wanted to do this for awhile. These are best players that have played for Maneiri....let's not turn this into a who recruited who thing C -- Micah Gibbs 1B--Matt Clark/Blake Dean 2B--DJ Lemahieu SS--Austin Nola 3B--Tyler Hanover LF--Leon Landry CF--Mikie Mahtook RF--Jared Mitchell DH--Blake Dean/Matt Clark *Dean/Clark are IMO interchangeable at 1B/DH SP--Anthony Ranaudo SP--Louis Coleman SP--Kevin Gausman MR/SU--Jared Bradford Closer--Matty Ott? Jacoby Jones will be too good to leave off this list before he is done here. Kurt McCune has an argument to be on this team. Maybe midweek starter? I put Ott as the closer out of respect for his saves record, but I would honestly feel more comfortable with Chad Jones there.
i'd have Schimpf on there somewhere. you could either take out Landry at LF and put Schimpf there (like we did in the 2009 CWS), or take out Nola, slide Lemahieu over to SS, and put Schimpf at 2B. i love me some Schimpf. on the championship team, he was #1 on the team with 22 homers, which was Top Ten all-time in LSU history (the only person who did better under Mainieri was 2008 Clark with 24). he was also #2 on the championship team in batting average (.336) and stolen bases (18), better than Dean in both. Schimpf was also awesome in the playoffs during both trips to Omaha: in the 2008 postseason, he hit .419 with 15 RBI. In the 2009 postseason he hit .395 with 14 RBI and was named to the 2009 CWS all-Tournament team (along with Ranaudo, Mitchell, and LeMahieu... Dean didn't make it). also you could argue Helenihi over Hanover since Helenihi took over at 3B for the championship team
