@RamahRising Pat Screen, Nelson Stokely, Buddy Lee, Paul Lyons, Bert Jones et al were BEFORE Woodly and Ensminger and Mac’s pattern was set by then. It didn’t matter who was QB....Bert Jones is in the NFL HOF for Christ’s sake and he platooned with Paul. Maybe David wasn’t mature enough to handle it. I also thought Steve was a better passer then. You give people a hard time about whining....SO STOP WHINING!
Good Points about platooning but Minger wasn’t half the passer that Woodley was ... Minger never even sniffed the NFL much less made All Pro ... Woodley could throw a ball 75 yards on the money and couldda thrown a lotta dimes for LSU ... Only Bert had a stronger arm than Dave Woodley!!!
Nick Saban was not a very good football player but he is an average OK coach I guess, woulda ya think?
These guys played before my time at LSU, so I did some digging. I'd read about their exploits in books. Woodley was an 8th round draft pick by the Dolphins. He was never a full-time starter outside of his rookie year where he played beyond expectations. They made the Super Bowl, but that was in the strike year of '82 and he didn't throw a completion in the second half of the Super Bowl in a loss. He was replaced, and never really was the primary starter for any team he was on.. I'm not sure that's worth bragging so hard about. I mean, JaMarcus Russell probably had the strongest arm in school history, but are you going to laud his exploits compared to others? No idea if Ensminger should or shouldn't have split time with the guy, but your personal friendship seems to be clouding your judgement and personal relationships are a hallmark of distorted perspective.
