Harris Poll has LSU No.1, Coaches have OU No.1, and the computers have Bama No.1. According to ESPN BCS guru Brad Edwards, Alabama would be No. 1 if the BCS poll was released today. We would be 2, and OU 3. It's irrelevant since we play each other, but I don't get how Bama can be No.1. since our SOS has been much tougher. That may even out as the season goes on, but to date, we've played tougher opponents. I'm not sure why SOS was removed from the BCS formula, but I think it should be factored back in. I don't understand how the computers have Bama higher either - it must be because the formulas are gay or because Bama has had a bigger margin of decision.
I can almost understand margin of victory (a win is a win), but not strength of schedule. That should definitely be included, IMO.
They are a bit better than us in some offensive categories, but not that many. In many offensive categories they are not even ranked - surprisingly. However, they do top us in total defense.
As far as the computers are concerned, strength of schedule (SOS) is strictly a measure of your opponents' records. There is more to the computer polls than SOS alone, but SOS is a big part of it. On 10/5 Brad Edwards said: "BCS computers love Bama because it has wins over 3 teams that haven't lost to anyone else (PSU, ARK, FLA)" Head to head competition doesn't count when calculating SOS, so Florida's loss to Bama isn't factored in as far as Bama's opponents' record. We are in good shape with Oregon and West Virginia likely to have great records all season. Western Kentucky and Kentucky on the other hand, not so much. Early days for the BCS, but we are in great shape controlling our own destiny...
Not BSU, USC. And the record of your opponent definitely factors in. I thought we'd be doing pretty good in that regard, but I guess Bama's better? Oregon 4-1 NWST 3-3 (FCS) MSU 3-3 WVU 5-1 UK 2-4 UF 4-2 Kent St 1-5 Penn St 5-1 N Texas 2-4 Arkansas 5-1 UF 4-2 Vandy 3-2
