a weaving 40? never heard of that. i guess i can envision it, but its hard to believe that a top college football linebacker cant run a straight line. all these guys have run the 40 a few times before, right?

"We're going to prove the NFL wrong, that 40-yard dash times at the combine don't tell you everything," Cardinals linebackers coach Billy Davis said. "Like I told Ali, 'Your film says you can play at this level. You started three years. You won a national championship. You played in the SEC. Are you kidding me?'

"Now, he has to work his tail off, but he can play in the NFL. This isn't about 40 times. Heck, they don't call it the National 40-Yard Dash League. It's the National Football League. It's that 'football' in the middle there you're looking for."

I wish more coaches in the NFL lived by this quote.

Highsmith, a cousin of former NFL running back Alonzo Highsmith, said he was nursing a slight ankle sprain and didn't feel up to running the 40 at the combine but was encouraged to do so by combine officials.

"It was more of a mental thing," he said. "My body was telling me no, but I pushed myself. It was a mistake."

That really sucks. Pressure to run one or 2 40 yard sprints cost him millions.

Good luck to Ali trying to prove the doubters wrong.
