This is way too bad. I think him missing most of his rookie season with the ACL probably hurt his chances. The Associated Press: Cardinals release 2 players, sign 2 others
Hate to hear that. Highsmith wasn't one our our all-time greats but he did play very well his Sr. year from what I remember.
I thought he was pretty damned good. He had a huge national championship game in 07, dude was flying around everywhere. Saints should give him a look, he can't be any worse than Shanle is.
I hate to see it happen to good LSU players. The Saints could pick him up. Didn't they take a hurt QB away from a team a few years ago?:thumb:
Ya he was one of our best LBs of this decade. From the LSU all-decade team thread: Nobody disagreed with having Highsmith on our all-decade team.
i loved highsmith and I would love for the Saints to take a chance on him. Yea he was out of position on that long beanie wells TD run in the 07 BCSNCG but he was still one of my favorites. And damn was he a hard hitter with decent coverage skills.
...he more than made up for it on the 4th down sack and fumble, along with another of other plays in that game.
Dude, Shanle is a beast. He's played well above and beyond his potential at NOLA. That's not to say that I wouldn't mind upgrading the position, but Ali Highsmith isn't going to take it away from him with the team heading into the playoffs.
shanle is a beast? sorry just don't see it. the only players on the Saints defense i would keep around are Sharper, Vilma, Greer, Porter, Harper, and Ellis. Jonathan Vilma has over 40 more tackles than Shanle has, Scott Fujita has about 10 less tackles and has seen far less playing time than Shanle has due to injury.
