Ali's 4.96 has disappointed me, but everybody on this forum (and thus I would expect the NFL scouts) knows this kid plays very fast and an injury had to hold him up. I forsee either one of two things happening: 1.) he dominates at the pro day and gets drafted where he deserves (1st day atleast) or 2.) He still manages to slip into the mid to later rounds and a good, smart team (say the Colts) will pick him up and he will thrive in their system. Regardless, this helps to prove that the combine means relatively nothing. Let the fools who know nothing about football drool over the "measurables" and the rest of us can appreciate the good "football players". Obviously being physically gifted can help (look at Patrick Willis), but unless you play hard and smart on the field youll never be successful, especially in the NFL. Ill take a "too small and too slow" Zach Thomas over the "atheletic freak" Boss Bailey anyday.
Quick question: can we not use the term 1st day pick anymore do describe players who are bound to go in the 1st 3 rounds? Did the NFL decide if they were going to have the 1st round only on Friday Night?
They shortened the 1st round selection time to 10 minutes from 15, and moved the start time of the 1st round back a few hours. Sunday's selections will move up an hour or so. I remember reading that many believe this is being created to eventually include a Friday night prime time telecast of the first round.
