A belated thanks to you CParso for the info. It is nice to know that some people, like yourself, have class.
Perple, you have embarrassed yourself by attacking me. It is not worth my time and effort to go through my post, line by line, and embarrass you further by explaining why your assertions against me are asinine. If others with more intelligence than Perple want to explain it to him, feel free. Ironically, you trashed someone who shares the same sentiments as you regarding our coaches ability to evaluate talent better than individuals, recruiting services, etc., you were just too busy being a hothead to realize it.
Sorry that you see what I wrote as an attack. I'd be interested to how you would read this statement: It does not appear that you have much faith in the LSU's coaching staff's recruiting ability. You question the fans for "Letting the coaches slide on this decision".
Jeremy Crabtree of Rivals on 10/9 mentions LSU's Alex Hurst commitment & Rivals status. I'm guessing the caller was asking about LB'er Brandon Beal of PA, not Terrelle Pryor of PA. LSU at the 5:33 mark: http://vmedia.rivals.com/uploads/1135/550541.wma
The first sentence of my statement refers to the move catching most of us by surprise again. To interpret: This guy like a few others weren't on our radar screen as much as other recruits, like the guys CParso lists as those who we are probably pursuing. A reaction of surprise does not indicate that it is a bad surprise or a good surprise---just a surprise. The second sentence is an assumption about human behavior. Because people and fans are in such a good mood after the great win they are less likely to come on this forum and cry about us getting a 2 star recruit, especially when our most famous 2 star recruit--Hester was the hero. Now do you understand?
The LSU coaches saw the Hurst boy up close and personal and in my opinion landed a class act and someone who will make a solid contribution. I've seen him play and he is much much better than two stars. Am certain he had solid offers from Tennessee, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and a couple of smaller programs. Heard that a couple of big name programs were showing serious interest.
The commitment may have taken the fans by surprise, but it didn't take the coaches by surprise. This is common, since we don't know wtf is going on in regards to any recruit.
We know, or at least we think we know more about in state players from friends, relatives, people on sites like this, etc. This guy was from Tennessee, so who among us is focusing on a 2 star prospect from Tennessee. No, I don't think it was a surprise to our coaches.
For what it's worth ---- In the August 2007 prep football season preview the local paper, the Commerical Appeal, had Hurst listed on its "Most Wanted" list. At least in the newspaper reporter's opinion Hurst is a pretty good recruit if he made that list - Shelby County has lots Division 1 prospects every year. ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:
