If you have a rivals account you should really read the story about this. I don't know if any or all of it are true and the since LSU coaches cannot comment on the record, the story was from the Cate family perspective, but if half of it is accurate there is more blame on LSU for this than Cate. The article states that noone from LSU had even contacted Cate since the Tenn game (coaches are allowed contact each week) and at the time of the last contact Cate asked what the deal was with Tebow or any other QB and the staff never answered. Again I don't know if the Cate family side portrayed in the article is truth or simply a shade of truth but it is interesting.
Re: Alex Cate Decoms this same thing happened to Saban too. Saban wasn't perfect and lost some recruits... Given all else equal, if Saban was still our coach this could have still happened...
Re: Alex Cate Decoms Kteam, jeezus you're being negative... I thought Cate was going to be a very good QB for us. I do believe this is a big loss as he was our one QB commit for this class, but I don't blame him. These recruits want to play. LSU currently has three 5star quality QBs ahead of him on the roster. THREE. How many teams can say that? With that kind of talent & depth, it will be hard to get a good QB commit this year, but we are getting serious interest from Tebow (I understand he's very doubtful to come here, but how bad could your recruiting be when we get the # 1 QB in the country last year & serious interest from the next one this year?) LSU has offered less scholarships than Texas & Georgia, yet we are still ranked number 3. Our average star ratings are very high. This is not some LSU homer saying how great our recruiting is - this is the national media & recruiting services. LSU may not end up at number 3 to end the season, but we will have a very good class. Also, don't forget how good Miles was in the clutch at the end of last signing period. We may have yet to see our best recruits.
Re: Alex Cate Decoms The reason we had such badass depth was b/c Saban kept them stacked on top of each other.
Re: Alex Cate Decoms KTeamLSU, a little Reality. Saban in 5 years signed a grand Total of Six 5 Star recruits: Clayton Spears Vincent Carter Doucet Wroten Please let me know if I missed any. The 2003 #1 Ranked Recruiting class had: Ten 3 Star players & Sixteen 4 Star players. And the lone 5 Star was Justin Vincent. Anyway, Miles nabbed Perrilloux, and Al Woods is committed for 2006. We have 2 players who are #1 at their positins in Tilllman & Woods. How do you figure our recruitng has dropped off drastically?? We only have about 60% of what will be our final recruiting class.
i didn't say it had dropped off... i was just pointing attention at the situation everyone else was taking lightly. Perriloux was coming here regardless of whether Miles or anyone else was coming. He was coming because of his family in La could watch him alot easier and he had a better shot of getting PT. Miles could have told RP his name and the fact that we play football and Ploux would signed. im not saying the sky is falling, im just saying its looking a little cloudier.
I hate losing any commitments, especially a QB seeing how it is very unlikely we will pick up Tebow or any other quality QB this year. Saban was right to maintain a deep stable of players, particularly in the skill positions.
Re: Alex Cate Decoms Big loss imo because I think he's a good QB and a great kid. But the staff considered him expendable it appears, so they either do not feel they need a QB this class, or they think they can chance getting someone else. They wouldn't let him leave so easily without having another option, or lack thereof. WIsh him well at OSU.
Re: Alex Cate Decoms If the coaching staff really did stop calling Cate, they didn't forget - they didn't think he was a necessary commitment. Maybe they want to take their chance on Tebow, but I doubt they would completely stop recruiting Cate for a shot at Tebow. Perhaps they feel confident about JaMarcus, Flynn & Perrilloux sticking around long enough to wait & have their eye on a QB or 2 for next year. There's a whole bunch here that we don't know about & I'm sure the coaches have a reason behind this.
