I doubt if Tebows mild interest in LSU was the cause for Cade to decommit, just a convenient excuse. The issue is likely playing time. The only reason to go to a lower-tier program is to play earlier and more often. LSU made him an offer. OSU made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Russell has established himself as a sophomore quarterback and LSU redshirted a 5-star recruit like Perrilloux. Cade had to see that a redshirt year was definitely going to happen followed by several years as a backup. There is probably no way that LSU is going to sign a top QB recruit this year. Blue chips ain't interested in being just another arm on the practice field.
I don't think it was playing time. In an article, Cate specifically said that he felt LSU coaches quit recruiting him. He said they hadn't been in touch with him for months (except when he called them), where as Oklahoma St made it clear to him that he was the only QB they were recruiting & they wanted him to be their guy. We all know that our coaches don't forget about recruits that they want to sign. If we want their signature, we are going to stay in touch with them throughout the process. LSU obviously felt we didn't need Cate in this signing class, either because we've got our eye on another one this year or perhaps one or two for next season.
sorry but some of ya'll need to go back and look at the recruiting rankings from years gone by before ya'll claim everybody and their mom was a damn 5 star.
New twist:The LSU coaches are pissed about how Cate's dad is bad mouthing them, with the trust issue. They were apparently pretty up front with Alex, but the Cate family could possibly be using this an excuse to go to a school which offers more playing time. If true, that is really dirty of Cate's father, because this kind of stuff gives coaches a bad rep.
Well, It wouldn't be the first time if LSU backed off of a youngster because he came with an overbearing and intrusive father. Remember that linebacker in the Dinardo years (McConathy?) whose father moved to BR with him and was in sports bars all over town during summer practice telling everybody that his boy would start as a freshman. When he ended up third string in two-a days his father pulled him out of school and he transferred to Texas where he also didn't start and he finished up poorly at Louisiana Tech. A career wasted by sitting out transfer years trying to please a father who was acting out his fantasies through his son. The bad side to the Shaquille O'Neal era was Sgt. Harrison browbeating Dale and Joe Dean for three years. He even tried it when Shaq went to the NBA in Orlando before Shaq finally got the upper hand and told his dad to let him run his own career.
