Per his Twitter announcement. Team has not announced any cuts yet. Also a couple of WR camp bodies have announced their releases.
Yes I find that surprising especially since Charleston has been banged up and no one else has really stepped up their game. Plus it looks like a 2 game suspension some time this season for Smith. Saints cut Alex Brown | ProFootballTalk Also looks like these are todays cuts: S DeAndre McDaniel CB Mark Parson WR Jerrod Fayson WR Jay Chiles DE Alex Brown
Brown's release sends a message to the defense as a whole, I think. Not even starters are safe if they don't perform. My guess is, the winner in his release is Mitch King. The Saints look exceptionally deep at tackle, and King has the right size/speed combo to possibly move outside.
Alex Brown's release supposedly clears 3 mil in cap space. That is a good chunk of change for his performance and it probably played a role. I was never a big fan because I thought he was a little light in the pants to stop the run. I would have never considered Mitch King as a DE. Do you know something or have we worked him at that position before? I know he has a good motor and is a light DT, but his build, short and stocky, isn't prototypical for a DE. That's probably why I never considered it. I like him though--he hustles.
Nope, don't know a thing. Just looking at the way he plays. Spitballing, if you will. BTW, the roster on the Saints website lists him at 6'2, 280. Will Smith is 6'3, 282. Don't know how much difference that one inch makes. Don't forget, by most standards, Drew Brees is way too short to play QB in the NFL. Speaking of Brees, I didn't know about the salary cap implications of releasing Brown. That's good news. With Philly signing DogFighter to 6 years/$100 million, I don't know how we can possibly pay Drew less than $18 million a year next year.
