Pujols is on pace to hit something like 65 home runs. If he does, will everyone consider him the single season champ? Another question, is Pujols on the juice? I really dont care, i think steroids should be legal, what i dont think is fair, is the way some are crucified for alleged use, and some aren't. But seriously, Pujoles hits home runs that should be outs, barely touches them, or hits them off the top of the bat, and they still clear the fence. And the ones he gets ahold of probably still haven't landed yet.
I don't think he's going to get that many. He's only 3 HRs (1 per month) behind where he was at this point in '06. He's locked in right now, so it looks like he's never gonna quit hitting them. But he'll go through a spell of hitting only 4 or so over the course of the month and will end up shy of 60, maybe even below 50. Is he (or did he) juicing? At this point, no names would surprise me. He's from the Dominican, and most of those guys have shot up. I'd like to hope he's clean, but I'll always be suspicious now. But instead of making a big deal about his power numbers, I thin kmore should be said of the fact that he never strikes out. His ability to just make contact is unbelievable. Joe DiMaggio like numbers.
he is a great hitter, possibly could win the triple crown, there is no denying that, it just amazes me at the amount of balls that he barely gets a piece of that end up 6 or 7 rows back. If he juices, then he juices, personally i think steroids make baseball easier to watch on a professional level, i still think bonds should be in the H.O.F. dude may not have hit over 750 longballs, but he damn sure was one of the greatest players of our age in the regular season.
he's got as a good a shot at the triple rown as anyone that has played in my lifetime. Right now, those balls are leaving the yard because he's getting just enough of them. next month, those may be warning track flyballs at best, his HR numbers and BA will drop, and we'll quit talking about him chasing Maris' 61, because he won't quite get enough of them. People are dying to have a guy that hasn't been implicated to have that magical season. Can he get to 60, 61, or even 62. Yeah probably so, but let's at least let the guy have his first 50 hr season before we put him past Roger's number. discussion for another day
Lets not forget the HR derby. Anyone who has done well in that thing has had a considerable drop in numbers after. I was hoping he would not participate because I have a lofty prop bet for the cards to do well.
thats a myth. ryan howard and others are proof. hell he has more homers than anyone since winning it i believe. but its fun to follow those that struggle after and blame it on the derby. the only crazy thing like that that is real is the madden curse, of course. oh and its pujols not pujoles as clair indirectly pointed out.
who knows if he's juiced, but he was awesome from the start so there will be no huge power spike like bonds, luis gonzo, or boone. then again mcgwire hit 49 as a rook. had the pleasure of watching pujoles a few times during his rocket through the minors (i think it was maybe 3/4 of a season.).
McGwire also set the NCAA record for most home runs in a season in 1984, although it is a NCAA record that has been since broken by others, including LSU's Brandon Larson in 1997.
