No if we can't run the ball between the tackles. I do think his passing has improved to the point THAT could be a big advantage. Course we did pass for more yards than we ran last time. Our receivers' talent make up a little ground for what JJ's accuracy lacks. Having said that, RR had a rare drop that would've been a TD.

Nah, we had close to 150 on the ground, and a little over 90 though the air

JJ has improved significantly in the passing game, but he's still holding onto the ball a tad long sometimes. He can get away with it against the likes of Ole Miss and Arky, but he's got to pull the trigger a little more quickly against a talented secondary.

I think we had an advantage running outside the tackles last game. Might have been totally from the option, but I think we have the speed to hit the edge and take advantage without the option. I really like the way Hilliard is running the ball and I think he is just as good between the tackles as Ware, but I would like to see Ware get more carries against UGA. He flat out wore people down earlier in the season. Advantage of JJ running the play action against a really good man coverage team is when pocket collapses and he uses his feet, there should be lots of real estate for him to take advantage of. I know it may be a cliche' to say a team of our caliber is "hitting its stride", but I think our offense has been hitting is stride the last 3 weeks.

That's right, thanks. Got tripped up with my mindset going in was thinking we'd have more through the air and remember being shocked that Bama had more through the air and us, running.

The advantage on the edge was from the option. Play fakes are run off of dive plays, not options.

Well, I guess they could be but that's asking JJ to think an awful lot. Maybe a swing pass or two? Think JJ can recognize a cover 3 or cover 4?

As far as speed to the edge, I agree. The option holds/commits a defender and why it gives us an edge if run right.

I hope JJ can recognize cover 2,3,4,5 and 6 at this point in his career:crystal::hihi:
We have not seen JJ do the play where he starts the option, then pulls back in the pocket and his a streaking RR or ODBjr. Would be a wrinkle. I think we have speed advantages to the edge AND I believe that our WR's are severely underrated blockers. They all are tough and block well, which is a huge help to the RB's as well as on the swing plays to the flats.

Certainly would. That jump pass we ran against Florida was money. That could be a modification or like you said, a wrinkle.

Just JJ passing downfield is a wrinkle.:hihi:

Also remember that Jefferson can run a lot of different stuff out of that zone read set. A sweep to the edge, play action, or a 30-yd dive up the middle. :hihi:

To be honest, without LSU being "tricky" there are a lot of offensive sets and plays that are in our playbook that we have yet to get to. So far they have not been needed, as we have bulldozed our way along. I assume we will do the same against UGA and in the NCCG, but to have those in our pocket that we have not used a lot this season is going to be money. Wildcat or the sweep with Shepard (maybe ODBjr instead), naked pitch to Ford, you name it, I think we have unused plays that would work quite well, if in a pinch.

Here is a question for you guys,
what do you think the conversation between saban and his special teams coach was after the game? Do you think saban layed all the blame on his special teams coach or did he take credit for all the miscues himself?

Saban said the right things to the media and took resposibility as the coach, but behind the scenes, I bet his he chewed some hydes. Look at the hissy fit he threw at the Auburn game when they ran one back. The player went the wrong way. Special teams is a tough one to try to correct. So much is reliant on everyone making their assignments. Look at Arkansas. The punter screws up and punts away from coverage and the Honey Badger takes it to the house. Who do you get mad at in those instances? Coaches or players? Probably both, but I think special teams are tough to lay blame and correct sometimes.
