I think Meyer will go to ND in a few years and Saban will be at Bama until he retires. He's not going anywhere.
:geaux: Agree Meyer could very well go to ND when Weiss gets canned, but I'm not convinced Saban is at 'Bama for the duration. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Joe Pa leaves Penn St. , which is gonna happen sooner rather than later. What is he, 82? Not saying it'll happen, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Saban try to snag that job and get back near to where he was born and raised. Saban is a Midwest/East type of guy and I think he might want to finish up "at home." We'll just have to wait and see.:hihi: :LSU231:
Sounds like Nick Saban? A match made in heaven with the exception that their head will spin if Saban ever bolts to ND or some other program if he gets tired of Tuscaloosa. I wonder if they would come back down to earth real quick?opcorn:
That's just plain silly, not even you believe that. Saban isn't going anywhere. Getting talent obviously isn't an issue for him at Bama.
Nick leaving LSU was the biggest mistake of his life, he's said it plainly. He could have been winning championships at LSU in those wasted years at Miami. He would have come back, too, if Les had not locked the position up by then. I don't blame him for choosing the best team that was looking. It's unfortunate that he chose a candidate that has to play LSU annually. It's turned him from a cherished part of LSU football history to a powerful rival that's trying to take something from us each and every autumn. So be it. Whatever you think about Nick as a coach or a person, there is little doubt that he is not a fool. He's never repeated a mistake and he will not leave Bama lightly. He's going to stick until he accomplishes some goal he has set himself. He wants to win some trophies before he retires, which is possibly not all that far off. 75% chance that Nick retires at Bama. In an imaginary scenario where Nick wins another NC at Alabama, fulfills his goals, and decides to move on I would guess two possible scenarios. (1) Another shot at the NFL--its hard to imagine that Nick doesn't feel that he left unfinished business there. or (2) Head coach at Ohio State. Nick grew up across the river from Ohio, has family there, and coached all of his early college and pro career in and around Ohio, including a stint as an Ohio State assistant. Having conquered the SEC, Nick might desire one last shot at the Big-10--unfinished business there, too.
I have maintained since Nick went to Bama there is a good chance his wandering days are over. Age has a big impact, and what you have achieved, what your goals are, and what the odds of achieving your goals are in your current post. Let's say Nick wants to win a NC (he does). Can he do it at Bama? Yes, been done before there. He knows talent across the nation, and I think Bama gives him as good a recruiting platform as Penn St. does, or WV. Nick has at most 1 gig left, assuming he will retire by 65, and he's about 58. He has the process started at Bama, I think it offers him the best shot at another NC, than starting over at Penn St. If he were a younger man, maybe. Then there's the $. Bama seems to have taken care of that. I see Nick staying at Bama. The NFL will not call again, he already flunked that test badly.
I think Nick sealed the deal for alot of college coaches wanting to go pro after Darth Visor and then Nick NFL owners are gonna be alittle more gun shy when hiring from the college ranks for the head job. Now I dont think Nick has as much control over his future then you say. I think the majority is with the schools looking for a coach and if Nick was to show interest I am not sure they would want to take the chance on a guy that seems to just want the next big pay check.
