Saints traded up in the 4th to get him at #123. Woods has been climbing up the draft board as of late and nice to see him go in the 4th.
He did very well at the combine including his 40 time and vertical jump. Also he had the longest wingspan and biggest pair of hands of all the defensive tackles. We will see if the saints can coach him up and maximize his talent.
If we didn't move up he would have been gone and the Saints needed at DT. Most of the teams had him as a potential pick in the 4th.
Thought they wanted a linebacker & the kid from South Carolina was still available - in fact I think he was chosen next.. (right after Woods) Anyway I hope Woods becomes a gteat player for the Saints..
I really wanted Eric Norwood out of South Carolina at our spot in the fourth. Happy to have another Tiger on board, but I really hope Al's only just begun to finally realize his massive potential.
I'm waiting for Al Woods to do well with the Saints...make the team...play in certain down and distance situations as a rookie... ...and then read all the threads and posts about how Coach Miles can't develop players and needs to be fired....even though the reason he didn't live up to his expectations here may have had to do with him having to play behind all those other defensive linemen of late who got drafted high in the draft and are in the NFL now. opcorn:.
