Probably a 2 man race at this point, although you could argue a little for Verlander Greinke........ 14-8 2.14 Hernandez.... 16-5 2.45 Halladay....... 15-9 3.03 Verlander...... 16-8 3.34 239 Ks leads AL Sabathia....... 17-7 3.42 King Felix can thank Mariano Rivera last night for blowing his first save since April, converting a loss for Fernandez into a win as he threw a complete game. That may prove to be the difference in the end.
Projecting a save last night for Rivera yields: 3-2 record, 1.63 ERA and 41 of 42 saves. That's still a fairly big stretch to say he would have led. Closers rarely get it and it's ONLY when there is no one deserving as a starter. Right now, Greinke and Hernandez are both very deserving. Take those 2 away and yes we can talk about Rivera.
never heard of fernandez. era is the only measurement i use. of course its going to be close. it just shouldnt be. wins are a product of the team and mostly bs. ks are irrelevant. ask maddux
Well you do make a good point. Just ask Hampton when he went 22-4 with an ERA just around 3.00 but lost out to Randy Johnson who had an mediocre record but an ERA that was somewhat lower (around 2.60-2.70 range). They do lean towards ERA.
grinks no question. that dude is filthy. speaking of ERA: last year santana led the NL in innings pitched and ERA, and lost the CY to lincecum. absurd. he pitched more and better than anyone and didnt win.
and therefore the reason I have Hernandez winning it if Greinke can't get a couple of more wins without suffering another loss. 16-8 record, he probably gets it. 14-9, 15-9. Probably not unless King Felix melts down.
