If this is accurate, and the Arky rumors about CWM are accurate, it could be a hiring frenzy at AU. Some are saying Tony Franklin was on the AU campus today.... http://blog.al.com/goldmine/2007/12/al_borges_out_as_auburns_offen.html AUBURN - Al Borges' tenure as Auburn's offensive coordinator is over. Borges has resigned and will not coach Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Clemson on New Year's Eve. Borges and head coach Tommy Tuberville agreed to the early departure in the last few days. Tuberville will try to have a new offensive coordinator on board before Auburn begins bowl practice Friday.
Hot rumor is Franklin from Troy State: http://www.troytrojans.com/fls/17200/stats/fb/2007/teamgbg.htm#TGBG.GBC
i've seen that Troy team quite a few times this year. Who will be the QB in that system? you need stellar QB play if they will do the same things at AU they did at Troy.
You guys have gone through 2 OC the last several years. What's the deal with Borges? Wasn't he instrumental in the development of Jason Campbell and your undefeated season? Has his motion-style offense become predictable?
One of these two: http://www.kodiburns.org/kodi-burns-biography.php Kodi Burns was a three-year starting quarterback for coach Darrell Henry where he accounted for more than 8,700 yards passing and rushing as a dual-threat quarterback. Henry, who installed a shotgun one-back offense to suit Kodi Burns , compares the young talent to the likes of Jason Campbell and Vince Young. Junior Stats: Burns accounted for 31 touchdowns by completing 134-of-277 passing for 2,182 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushing for 965 yards and another 11 scores. Soph. Stats: He was 129-of-228 for 1,935 yards and 21 touchdowns while rushing for 881 yards and five more scores. Coach Darrell Henry Comments: "It looks like he is playing a video game out there. The game just slows down for him as it does for all the great ones. And of course he can throw the football 74 yards, and the top NFL guy just threw it 72. He's going to be a great one. He's worthy of all the hype he is going to get." http://auburntigers.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/caudle_neil00.html Neil Caudle 2006 -- Redshirted ... SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll ... The great debate. Does CTT hold Borges back or did Borge lose his edge. If Franklin is the choice, I would pick option 2. You don't hire a guy that runs a fast paced attack to just pound the ball.
That would make more sense than getting rid of your OC just before a bowl game with no clue who you are going to replace him with. Hiring an OC is important and should not be a rush-rush job. Getting the right guy in this critical position is much more important than a bowl game. One can only assume that Tuberville has had someone in mind, and has spoken to him in confidence.
The decision to replace Borges was jointly made on November 6th and there have been rumors circling ever since. I'm surprised that something substantial had not leaked out prior to yesterday. The announcement on the replacement OC should be released by Friday. There also is more to the decision than simply CAB's on-field performance, but I will not discuss that here. That is CAB's business and only he should be involved in the decision to make it public. With regard to his on-field performance, there are many that feel CAB never lived up to his highly-regarded reputation as a developer of QB's. Borges does deserve credit for helping get the offense on track in '04, however it is a stretch to give him credit for developing Jason Campbell, just as it would be a stretch to give him credit for developing Antwan Randall-El while at Indiana. LSU fans are all to familiar with Cox's injury in the '06 game, courtesy of Dorsey. The fact that Auburn was forced to play a badly injured Brandon Cox the remainder of the entire season speaks volumes about both the recruiting and the development at the QB position - both of which were key Borges responsibilities - and it didn't improve in 2007. That's a key point, IMO, although I don't know if it was a key point in the decision. It's a myth that Tuberville "held Borge's playcalling back." It is far more accurate to state that it was a lack of personnel - mostly a lack of experience - that limited Borge's playcalling. Three pure freshman on the OL, an inexperienced receiver unit, and loss of key personnel due to suspension and injuries are the culprits more than anything else. Borges is actually a pretty good playcaller when he has a full quiver of arrows. At the end of the day, Auburn has far too much offensive talent to end the season with an offense ranked in the 100+ category .... and ultimately, that's what did CAB in ..... bio on Franklin: http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87292&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=937178&Q_SEASON=2007
