In lieu of recent scares in NY, you would think something so patently ridiculous would be impossible anywhere much less JFK. Do you feel secure when you get pulled out of line and get your pocket knife or nail file confiscated? :insane:

I felt much safer when they confiscated my suntan lotion on the way to Vegas.

    nail file? try lip gloss!

i have related this before but i will again....

i was going through security at the okc airport a few years ago when i got pulled out of line, my purse and carry-on confiscated to be searched by hand, and read the riot act. why? because i accidentally left a tiny tube of lip gloss in my purse. when i say tiny, i mean .06 of an ounce tiny. yet i was detained for like 20 minutes. when they were going through it all i pointed toward my regulation one quart bag with all the liquids in it and said "cant you just put it in there so i can go?" (as if i couldnt reach back in at the gate and put it back in my purse.) i literally got screamed at "dont touch anything". i mean they went ape-sh*t when they thought i might touch my carry-on as they were searching it.

all i could think was "you have to be f'ing kidding me!" like all the liquids in my zip-lock baggie couldnt hold something really contraband and be gotten to easily. or that such a tiny tube of lip gloss not "secured" in the zip-lock (what a freakin joke that is) could pose a danger.

i guess petite blondes in heels fit the profile of dangerous terrorists.

    Terrorism changed everything.

I went canoeing for 5 weeks in Canada in 1983. Upon arriving at the gate, when I fished out my tickets I discovered that for some reason I was carrying my big Buck sheath knife in my carry-on instead of the already checked duffle bag which contained my camping gear.

So I laid the ticket and the knife on the counter and explained the problem and the lady just brought out a fairly large box, dropped the knife into it, gave me a baggage tag and put it on board as checked baggage. No problem.

Today, I would be arrested, cuffed, detained and questioned for hours, and perhaps put on a no-fly list.

i thought you were allowed to carry guns in your checked bags because you never have access to them inside the secure parts of the airport. how else would you go on a hunting trip.

I think they have to be declared in advance.

I get pulled out of line everytime I go for the random body search. I think they have me on a no-fly list or something because it never fails, even last month they pulled me out of line

My wife has been pulled twice for that but not me. Clearly they recognize the more dangerous one.
