From an article in the Times Picayune, "Fullback Mark Snyder was given a medical redshirt and is unlikely to play again for LSU, though he will retain his scholarship." I don't know if you can trust this info, especially since they list him as a FB and I thought he was an OL.
He is an OL but the information is probably correct, otherwise. It is a common practice for coaches to allow players to keep their scholarships after being injured, I know Pete Carroll has done it.
:geaux::crystal::helmet: As Parso and others stated in later post, those two schollies won't necessarily go to the '09 Class. Other factors will determine if they do or not. Maybe you should think a little bit before you smartazz folks! :hihi::lol:
Miles said in his presser that Snyder will be on a medical redshirt that will not count towards our numbers. He didn't yank the scholarship. Lott transfered of his own accord, his scholarship wasn't pulled either, he could have stayed and competed.
Semantics. Add to, available to.... With limited scholarships in '09 and so many talented interests in LSU, it'll be hard not to make them available in '09 but maybe even harder to overlook a walk-on who shows promise and has been dedicated enough to foot the bill.
My projection: QB 2 RB 3 WR 2-3 OL 3 DL 4 LB 4 DB 3 K 1 If we give out a scholly to a kicker, then one will be taken away from another RSFR, so it's a wash. That puts us at 22-23.
Im pretty sure thta if someone gets hurt they still keep their scholarship, they're just not attributed to the 85. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. And Im pretty sure scholarhsip players are not put under review every year to see if they've "earned" their scholarship for the year. Thats not how it works, at least not at any major university. At JUCO, you can have your scholarship yanked... but for any major university to do it, say good bye to a serious number of recruits. Yanking scholarships = never ever turn out good edit : I mean I guess technically, Les could yank someone's scholarship, but it just doesnt happen
Major universities do it a lot, they just don't publicize it. A player will "decide to transfer" sometimes. Players who are troublemakers or just don't have the talent to compete at Division I are sometimes "encouraged" to find some greener pastures by not having their scholarships renewed.
A few years ago USC asked fullback Jody Adewale to give up his schollie in return for working in the Athletic Department and getting his Master's Degree. He agreed and then also agreed to come back when we got slammed with injuries. DBack Mozique McCurtis is not returning next season in order to concentrate on Law School. Not sure if it's related since we still have a few open schollies but still........
Neither one of these guys were going to contribute substantially, while the players that get their scholarships might.
