http://www.thejetsblog.com/2008/12/12/news-vilma-trade-to-net-jets-a-third-rounder/ Saints give Jets 3rd rounder while Jets give Saints their 4th rounder. I hope that is right, because that would make Vilma a steal.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nfl&id=3271039 This says the same thing except it "could" be a 2nd rounder instead. It certainly says the Jets must give up their 4th this season to the Saints.
Well if it's a first round pick simply because the Saints don't have a 2nd rounder, then Loomis dropped the ball on this one.
This is correct. It would become a second, but since we don't have one to give them, we'd have to pay up by giving up the first round pick. We won't be signing Vilma before Free Agency. He wants to come back to the Saints, let's hope he means it.
With the hiring of Williams, I would think that he would be even more excited to be signed by the Saints long term.
Schefter just said that Williams was conceivably 12 hours away from becoming the next Titans DC had he just waited it out a little longer. Schefter said the Saints were definitely pressuring him into a decision. Jim Schwartz, current DC of the Titans, has just been announced as the new head coach of the Detroit Lions. Great job Loomis and Co..
Agreed. He's even said as much in his blog (not about Williams, but about returning): http://www.jonvilma.com/frame-journal.asp
