Wow - did anyone see FoxNews Sunday today? Did you see the dad of one of the students killed? He said everyone is focusing on guns but the issue is safety in the schools. He said no one is going to agree on the gun issue but things can be done for school safety like what they did after 9-11 to ensure safety at airports. He had some great points

For those who think the 2nd A shouldn't apply to automatics or semis because "the Founding Fathers didn't envision them", meet the Puckle gun, essentially the world's first machine gun....and invented about 70 years before the Constitution was written:

The way most schools are built today, it's not possible to ensure safety of those within. It could be done but the few schools that are really secure cost mega bucks.

Most schools don't even have a fence and you can drive into the buildings if you wanted. Kinda hard to stop a weirdo who wants to inflict carnage.

Even if you had a locked gate and opened it EVERY time a parent came to pick up kids for dentist appt, sick, camping trips on Friday, etc. who's to say a parent doesn't decide to flip out? They would be let in and school officials would have no idea until it was too late.

Why couldn't someone escort the student out of the building to meet the parent outside?
Do schools have metal detectors like airports inside them?

Most schools have hand held detectors but if a bra has wires it will beep and there are no strip searches. :D

Escort sounds like a simple solution but not as easy as you would think, always. Secretaries miss work too. Aside from not always being able to hire subs for them, No one knows the kids/ parents like they do. Never fails, as soon as secretary leaves for smoke break or lunch, parents flock in. Coincidence.

As the public is more exposed to government ineptness, support for guns goes up. I hope CNN continues their show. Parade those kids out there more please. .

I dispute this as a shotgun is not a blunderbuss or a claymore. The old saying of an inch per yard of spread is not even true, it is more like a half inch (often less) per yard, so 2 shots to injury 90% of a classroom of 20 people is incorrect while using a 12g 18" barrel and 00 buck.

Also the most deadly school attack in the US did not have anything to do with a gun and it was in the 1920s.
