Drew Alleman, a kicker from Acadiana high is planning to walk on at LSU according to a TPY article. He has kicked 57 of 60 kickoffs out of the end zone and is 8 fo 10 on field goals. If you recall we recently used 2 schollys on kickers so this is big if we can get a freeby and free up another scholarship. We also recently went to Gaudet on kickoffs I believe. I don't think the coaches have been all that satisfied in this area. Therefore, while it normally doesn't seem that important to get a kicker, I think it could be a huge benefit if this kid can boom kickoffs deep and limit return yardage. Understand that the ball is lined up at the 40 in high school, 10 yards closer than college, before you envision every kickoff flying out of the endzone at LSU for the next 4 years. Still, if the reports are legit, I think he could be quite a weapon and get us a few touchbacks. As weak as our special team's defense has been lately it would be welcome. Has anyone actually seen this kid play?
Last year he made 2 FGs late in the 4th Qtr to beat Sulphur 13-10 in the Dome. Maybe he will be the hero again.
that game won't be that close. Destrahan is crazy good. They have a college speed offense that can not be stopped.
I believe I read that the arrangement is he will be a preferred walk-on, come in on TOPS, and if he earns a starting spot he'll be awarded a scholarship.
That's a good thing if he has the leg everyone says it is because our kick coverage team has been nothing short of abysmal this season.
If anyone goes to the game please watch the distance on his kickoffs. Remember the back line of the endzone would be the goal line in college, so you can judge where the ball would land according to that scenario. If I am wrong someone correct me, but I believe high school places the ball on the 40 while college places it at the 30.
