+1 And when USC did play a Big 12 team in the NC their awesome defense gave up 41 points helping them to a big L. Don't forget Stanford now. We can't forget 41 point underdogs going into USC's house and spanking that behind.
I was just watching SportsCenter and the Bloviating Blowhard and Herbstreet were arguing that the reason USC should be playing in the BCS title game are as follows: 1. The East Coast sports writers never get to see them play because of the time difference (the sportswriters are already asleep when PAC-10 teams play so they don't know how good these teams are) 2. USC could play any team in the country and they would "have a shot" to beat anyone (what a profound observation by Herbstreet) 3. Out of all the 1-loss teams out there, USC was punished the longest (without mentioning that USC's loss was to the weakest opponent that any of the 1-loss teams played) I'd love to see a playoff system so that USC would be forced to play teams likee Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, etc. Nothing like a few one and outs for the University of Spoiled Children and their fans to just stfu.
I doubt they'd go 1 and out. I'm pretty sure they'd be set up with a first round match in the Rose Bowl.
It's always arguable, but that's not what happened under the system that everyone agreed upon before the season started. My point is that you didn't and that you celebrate it makes you look like a douche. It could be worse. You could have gone the route of SC and AU and had Nat'l Title rings made...
The mute button was invented for announcers such as Musburger. I couldn't listen to it. Unfortunately AP is at it again also. The headline "Southern Cal Makes Case for Number 1" is in all the newspapers this morning.
I follow a guy on twitter named Matthew Barnett, he's the pastor of the Los Angeles Dream Center, and a MASSIVE USC homer. It hurts that it's not just the media who believes stuff like this- it really makes me queasy even thinking about them getting credit when their loss, unlike Bama or UF or OU or UT- is to a team who won it's bowl 3-0 AGAINST PITT. No, that's not baseball. If Carroll wants to talk quality wins, let's talk quality losses too.
Just watched a 20+ minute highlights of rosebowl game. With the cowboys out of the playoffs, they are turning to their #2 team...usc Pete Carroll "I don't think anyone can beat usc this year." um, ever hear of Oregon St pete? Of course, he started the sentence with "with all due respect". I don't think he can spell respect.
If you think #4 is as good as anyone, then you just justified a playoff for the top 4 teams, then +1 game. I'd like to see it. Do the 4 team playoff on New Years Day, or in the week where the conf. championships are and skip the conf. championship games (crown conf. champions like we did in the old days, based on their records). Course this would take the excitement out of the new years day bowls.
Look, USC has a great team, etc. But that was the most azzlicking I've ever heard last night. I don't think there is anyone who didn't notice. Musburger sounded like a complete idiot throughout the whole game. Herbstreet was not far behind. When Musburger started talking about USC and a possible split national championship (without even mentioning TEXAS!), I thought I was gonna puke. Nobody has mentioned USC and a split naional championship and all of a sudden this idiot is acting like this was a real consideration before the game started. And Herbstreet is just trying to piss more people off since his Ohio St. sucks and will likely drop another bowl game this year. You know, with him saying how USC has been penalized the longest for their loss. Look butthole - USC lost first out of all the teams in the National Title talk. It was just a few days before Florida lost, but it was also USC's third game while Florida was playing their fourth game. OU and Texas lost much later. Teams should be rewarded for staying undefeated longer. If USC has a case, then Bama has one because their only loss came in a championship game against an awesome team. But I hate Bama, so I won't even go there. It was just an example... USC lost to Oregon St. In fact, they were getting blown out 21-0 in the second half and did a good job to come back and make a game of it. Florida was actually winning their game in the second half against Ole Miss and let it slip away. OU lost to a great Texas team and Texas lost on a near-miracle play. USC had the weakest loss. Oregon St. had a home finale against Oregon for the right to go to the Rose Bowl and basically be the PAC-10 Champions. They got embarrassed 65-38. Yeah, quality loss USC! PAC-10 Power! Florida played 10 BOWL TEAMS and beat 9 of them! None of the nine came within 10 points of them. I think only 3 of the 9 came within 30 points. OU didn't beat anyone by less than two TDs other than their loss. Texas only had one game where they did not beat the opponent by at least 10 other than their one loss. Meanwhile, USC was squeaking past Arizona 17-10 with Arizona having their only offensive weapon out for the game. Also, they only beat Cal 17-7. There is no argument. By the way, Penn St. came pretty close to making it very exciting at the end. Unfortunately, they were calling two-yard passes with no timeouts left in the red zone. JoePa didn't even go down to talk to his team with them losing 31-7 at half!!! I love the guy, but I think it's getting to be that time... I could have just had both my legs amputated, but if my team was getting their azzes kicked like Penn St. at half last night, I would have crawled on the ground down the ramps if I had to just to get in there in chew some azz out. No, he sends a message - "Play Penn St. Football." Wow, what an inspiring, advice-filled speech. But they did come back, so I'll give them credit for that. His team did not give up and that's likely a credit to him. Anyway, USC is a great team and deserves accolades. But last night was ridiculous. When they were signing off, Musburger smiled and you could see that he had one of Pete Carroll's pubes lodged between his two front teeth. I'm assuming it was Carroll's because it was a white pube.
