I believe Aaron Murray will provide LSU with it's biggest challenge at the QB position all year. Murray is extremely accurate and very mobile. The thing that scares me most is we tend to struggle against mobile QBs. What we have to our advantage is that the UGA run game is not very good, so the pressure will be on Murray to make plays. He will most likely make some mistakes if we pressure him enough. We need our LB's and pseudo-LBs (TM7/RB13) to step up in this game in covering Orson Charles and also to stop Murray in case he runs. This will be easily the best defense he plays and I expect us to force him to make mistakes. :geauxtige
He's played well against less than stellar defenses... He has yet to face anything like what he'll see Sarurday. He won't look like the UGA QB people are used to seeing this season.
I used to be really hard on Chavis for not being able to scheme against mobile QBs, but that is clearly a thing of the past. Just look what we did to Darrron Thomas and Chris Relf. The speed on this defense is out of this world at all positions, so Murray better just keep his little behind in the pocket if he wants to finish the game.
I think Geno Smith is the best QB we have seen all season long. I think he is more mobile than Murray. Of course, I think Smith's WR core of small, yet speedy, WR's make him really good. I think UGA has a more vertical passing attack, but all in all, I don't think their WR's or passing offense is as potent as what we saw during our game with WVA. IMO. I think we can force Murray into two INT's. We will have to have Reid/Loston or Taylor really lay some licks on Orson Charles early and make him think about catching the next one. He is good and they use him a bunch.
I guess my main concern was seeing Tyler Wilson move around a lot in the Arkansas game. But that was probably because our defense didn't expect him to run. If we gameplan to expect Murray running, I trust our D to do the job and make him cough it up.
I agree. I get nervous with mobile QB's against LSU. We seem to have trouble. But as someone else just said, I think Murray will be wise to stay in the pocket and not stray from his assigned area. He is really not that much of a threat with his legs. He will have to pass it 60 time to beat us any way. I am not so certain UGA will be with the services of Crowell for long at RB in this game. I think he tweaks his high ankle sprain early. If that happens, the Dogs are about out of RB's that have a chance to run on LSU, so this game will 100% come down to the play of Murray, if UGA has any chance of winning.
Yeah, I was surprised at Wilson's athleticism. He'll make a good pro QB some day. However, the fact that he was forced to run meant that his WRs were being blanketed. They knew that they wouldn't win the game by relying on his feet, and the same thing applies to UGA. About the second or third time he takes off, some sadistic SOB from our secondary will be ready and will make him pay.
I'm not worried about Murray running, he might scramble a few times but our guys are fast enough that he won't go far. He has gotten much better but he will struggle Saturday. We will not face better receivers than we faced last game. The TE will be our biggest challenge.
Murray has been sacked more than any other QB in the SEC, he runs for his life, not as any sort of a primary offensive play.
Mobile QB's: Thomas- Oregon Smith - West Virginia Wilson - Arkansas McCarron - Alabama All had "outstanding receiving corps" (yeah right!) and All were picked to beat LSU...we all know how this worked out for them! So all you dawg fans might want to take notes during the game on Saturday and understand that your so called "mobile QB" wont be so mobile! By the end of the third quarter his offensive line will have quit on him like every other team that thought they could hang with LSU. Tigers win by 24! :geauxtige :LSU231:
