Do you think it would be worth it for LSU to go after this guy, considering our QB situation. By the time he would be eligible to play JJ will be a senior and Garret will be a redshirt Sophomore. thoughts?
I don't know if I want a USC reject here:hihi: But more to the point, it couldn't hurt, however, it's not going to matter who we have behind center if we don't have an offensive line to block for him and the running backs, and we don't have a coach who can develop QB's.
USC fans already mock the SEC because Mustain was a starting SEC QB, yet 3rd-string on their roster... the mocking would just increase if Corp ever became a starting QB in the SEC. I don't see it happening... if they guy wasn't good enough to beat out a true freshman... and being that the guy was horrible in USC's loss to Washington... I don't think any major program wants him.
I like to think I'm slow to criticize, at least with positions I never played in competitive football. So I don't think I jumped all over JJ, but I know I had a fit about the O line, especially after the UF game... even if it wasn't on here. But this is a whole different story which would belong in a different thread. I still say we don't want USC Rejects... could you imagine the back lash we would get from their fanbase?
that true freshman was pretty damn good, there's only 2 SEC schools I can think of off-hand that Barkley wouldn't have started this past season, Florida and probly Arkansas...just sayin I think he could find a few major programs that would like to give him a shot. You can't judge the kid on one game that he played, I'm pretty sure he didn't lose the game by himself...also, I would venture to say there's not too many losses that JJ looked brilliant in either. I don't think it matters either way, doubt he even sniffs Baton Rouge.
Aaron Corp, born and raised in Orange County, California... leaving the grand football stadiums of Los Angeles for a humble, yet brand-new little stadium in Richmond VA. At least the Spiders' football team just won the I-AA National Championship in 2008.
Sure, that was impressive that Barkley was the first true freshman QB in USC history to start a season opener, the first true freshman QB to start a season opener in the Pac 10 since 1999, and the first true freshman QB to start a season opener for a top five team in more than 30 years. But, if I remember correctly, he was #2 behind Corp, but Corp got injured which was the only reason Barkley started. Since he did well at first, when Corp came back, they let Barkley keep going (especially after Corp got his shot versus Washington and did not do well). And as for being a starting QB in the SEC as a true freshman... maybe for Vandy, Kentucky, or MSU. When USC lost to Oregon, Barkley only hit 55.3% of his passes for 187 yards and threw an INT. When USC lost to Stanford, he threw 3 INTs. In USC's loss to Arizona, he only hit 54.1% of his passes for 144 yards and threw an INT. Compare how Barkley did in comparison to SEC QBs this season. And USC had some great receivers. Their top two receivers were WR Damien Williams (projected #3 WR in 2011 Draft) and TE Anthony McCoy (projected #2 TE in 2010 Draft). He also had a good O-line led by All-American Charles Brown (projected as a 1st/2nd Round pick in 2010) and 3rd-Team All-American Jeff Byers.
