When looking at several of the top tier program over the past 20 yrs, when they go thru periods of demise is that they have fallen victim to their own success. In many cases many of these top tier programs ride a wave of significant success until their coaching staffs start to get raided. In some cases it has been the HC that gets snagged or retires, but in many cases it has been the Asst Coaches getting raided from the programs. What appears to happen in many of these cases is that the replacements either, go thru a period of adjustment or just aren't as good as the Asst Coaches that they have replaced.

Most recently LSU and USC have both gone thru this change. I'm talking USC before PC left. Both programs had their coaching staffs raided and both went and currently are going thru change, and decline in their programs. Like LSU, USC got lucky when they lost Kiffen and Chow, but after Steve S left they had a very down year. LSU got lucky, at first, when we lost Fisher, but had a defensive nightmare the first season we lost Bo P. Now we have an entirely new Defensive coaching staff, that based on last season appears to be on the upswing, but our offense went on a down swing. With a new set of Asst Coaches on the offense hopefully we have corrected this.

I know this has been pointed out in the past, and this is not to say that Miles is not to blame for some of the decline, but just a point to show that in several cases this same scenario has caused other programs to decline. The one thing that has happened and caused programs to continue to decline is when the HC's have been fired for the period of decline. See Nebraska, who BTW did have several of their Asst Coaches raided prior to their decline. If Miles has finally gotten all of the right pieces to the puzzle in place we should see our Tigers rise back to where we belong.

My point is that in some cases it isn't so much the Head Coach that has lost their way, but that the program has fallen victim to their own success, and replacing that winning chemistry is not as easy as just putting qualified coaches in to fill the supporting positions. The HC is only as good as his asst's, and in our case, just maybe that has been a big contributor to our problems. We will see soon enough if the chemistry in this current coaching staff can bring us back. Success starts in 5 days.:geauxtige:geaux: :LSU231:

Yes, sometimes you have to get hungry in order to play hungry. Getting hungry isn't always a pleasant experience.

Methinks you used too much logic when typing this post. This fails to meet the LSU fan standard. Go back and try again.

Ahh the curse of the coach that brings neither offense or defense to the table.

When you are a great program and you lose both your assistants. It makes it much harder to keep the ship steady. I believe this is the reason most hate to lose a coach like Saban. Say what you will, but the defense was the least of our worries when he was here. Hell, it was one of the best, if not the best in the country. Go figure he is still doing it at Alabama. Also having a coach that will guarantee that you have one of the top rated defenses (or offenses like Sprurrier and Meyers), year in and year out, means you only have to worry about one side of the ball.

Gerry Dinardo (another example of a political head), sure looked good when Reece and Watts were running the show. They leave and he hires Tepper, sticks by his side, and we all know the rest of the story. Will Crowton? be Miles.... Tepper, I hope not, because he reminds of Dinardo, and I liked both of them as people.

I sure hope that we have a great year, or Miles will be on the Dinardo death chair.

Well, for me, I do not see the D getting worse. I know they are young, but I feel they will be better than last year.

However, I think this is GC's last year unless he pulls something out his butt...

If anyone is on a hot seat, its him.

Ya know I sat there and read the dang thing twice, and almost against my better judgement did it anyway. It wasn't until almost a day of no replies that I realized I had over thought the room. I mean hell I'm not sure I even believe my own dribble. We all know Miles is to blame for everything wrong in the world. lol

You're right about that. I can say with confidence that of all Miles faults this would be the one area I don't think we will ever have a problem. He acts quickly and swiftly to avoid the NCAA axe.
