In spite of the firestorm of criticism, you tube videos and barrage of media analysis it would appear that the most critical aspect has been addressed by the Coach. From this morning's Advocate article (Miles Shoulders Blame - 2theadvocate.com | Sports | Miles shoulders blame — Baton Rouge, LA) it sounds like Miles has stood before his team and taken the right steps to keep this from becoming a complete disintegration. “It makes you earn so much more respect for a man who comes out and says something like that,” senior tight end Richard Dickson said. “Coach Miles has done great things here, been a great coach. The way he comes out and says that means a lot to you as a player and as a man. I earned a lot of respect for our coach for the way he talked to us.” Added Ridley, “I respect him. Any head coach that does that in front of the team and in front of the assistants, that comes up there and says, ‘This was my fault,’ it takes a lot for somebody to swallow their pride and say, ‘I messed something up.’ “He did what he needed to do. There’s nothing else that needs to be said. It says a lot about the person he is, and not just the coach. The team, that was something we needed to hear.” If Miles had done this sooner it certainly would have helped him publicly but at least he has managed to do the right thing by the players on this team and utlimately that is what matters the most. It is not what happens to you but how you respond to what happens to you that makes all the difference. The ability of the coaching staff to use the events of the past several days as a rallying point for this team will make all the difference and tell us a lot about everyone. We all make mistakes and decisions that we later regret or would have done differently. We are all human and are influenced consciously and subconsciously by so many different factors. You can only change what's in front of you. A better read on the man will come from what happens now that he has had the opportunity to separate himself from the frenzy and look at this clearly. Right now, Miles has the opportunity to use these current events to make impactful changes that can help this team grow and develop. How effectively he does that will make all the difference. Something good must come from this or else the entire event is wasted. From the quotes I read in the article it sounds like there is an opportunity right now to leverage these bitter events and rally a loyal team around an embattled coach to put on a Cajun sytle Cochon de Lait in Tiger Stadium this Saturday. This little piggie went to Death Valley where he was served up with some gravy and an ice cold beer!! :geaux:
Too long-winded, 420. Since Saban's players left the program, Miles is 7-8 in the SEC. The team hasn't had a big SEC win since Tennessee in 2007. It is hard to see how the LSU program gets back to the championship level under Miles. Hence, it is hard to see how Miles retains his job past 2010. :tigerhead
I continue to love this analogy, "since Saban's players left", WTF did Saban have to do with the teaching of any of those players, many never played under him, nor were they ever coached by him, they were just recruited by him. What I find remarkable is that people like you fail to realize what the real problem was/is, Miles made a huge mistake with the co-DC thing (fixed it), and now GC has out lived his welcome. It has nothing to do with the players Saban recruited and never coached. It has everything to do with the coaching asst's that Miles has put in place. If the argument is to hold water of Miles was winning with Sabans players, and Saban gets all the credit, then Saban is winning with Shula's players and Shula gets all the credit, Nutt is winning with all of Orgeron players and Coach O gets all the credit, and Rodriguez is losing with all of Carrs players and it Carrs fault, etc. Ya see how that argument really has no bearing on how a team is doing after a coach leaves, it is all about the new coaches and the new staff. Miles has his faults and has not done a great job at replacing 2 very good asst's, but he does know how to fix the problem. He corrected it on defense and he will correct it on offense.
I love this since Sabans players left I thought in 2007 they were Les's players since he coached them up for 3 years. You have never seen a college team lose a class and fall off(2003 vs 2004!!) Since 2007 we have had D problems (getting better) QB's problems (well still waiting but we are getting better) I think the Saban player thing is just a side issue to have a rock to throw at CLM. In the last 2 years we are 7-8 and hope to be 8-8 on Sat in the SEC. So whats your point? !twocrystals!
Defensive problems aren't fixed. No passrush. Can't stop the run. Can't get off the field on third down. You seem to enjoy mediocrity. Good for you. Makes life easier.
Drives me crazy when people say "it was Saban's players and that is why we won!" Did he give them a shot in the azz and say you are my players and if I leave you won't be succesful. The season has drove me just as crazy as it had anyone else. The fact is Miles is not going anywhere but hopefully he will make some desicions and get this team going in the right direction. We have too much talent on the field to keep trending in this direction. I Love LSU and the fact that I am a Tiger fan, hard to swallow some of the bonehead things going on but we have to rally behind them and hope the right things happen! :geaux:
Dude! You want mediocrity, you can should look in a lot of places before you look in Tiger Stadium. I can suggest a few stops where there are bigger problems. Try FSU or Virginia for starters. You could also make a stop in Michigan or stand a while underneath Touchdown Jesus. Those are a few programs with major problems and what I would consider mediocre. I do, however, enjoy your comeback. You talk as if the deterioration began since Saban left with only "his" players as a reminder. If Miles could not assemble a quality staff and could not coach talent then they would have won like mad at the beginning and then slid continuously from that point on. What happened instead was consistent performance on the way to a National Championship. So, he has proven that he can coach and he can build a staff around him. The program got knocked off course and they are having challenges in correcting the issues. Perrilloux's dismissal caused tremendous damage to the offense. Last year's events of a troubled, very green and very young QB overshadowed (for many) the fact that it might be the system and not necessarily the player. I think JL can be a good QB but it would appear that he needs a change of scenery to rid himself of the demons and regain his confidence. The OC position probably got a little further lost because a lot of attention was focused on the failures of the defense at the same time. Miles tried something, failed, and corrected the issue. This year, the defense has made steady improvements and is a much more reliable unit than last year. You complain about the defense but I think they have done admirably given a new coordinator and a new system and a lot of learning / adjustments required by the players. They could have done a lot worse and they are FAR from mediocre. Not only have they stood up and held ground but they have had to do so with little rest throughout the game because our offense gets few possessions and spends little time between the lines. If our problems on offense were fixed we would have a much more rested D on the field and our numbers would be impressive. Now the issue rests with the offense. Crowton is done and it's up to Miles to fix that. I don't think he has a choice but to make the right decision here. Bring in the right guy and you once again have a solid staff that can take this team to the next level and regain our position as league elite. Next year will be a great time to make the move! Let's stop bitching and start talking about how it gets done!
Exactly, it's the coaching not the recruiting, Miles has done a really good job recruiting. All these morons that have no clue sound like a broken record singing the same old verse of Saban's players. The defense has been greatly improved with the same old players but better coaching this year over last. The offense is loaded with talent, but Crowton loaned his brain out to someone and they haven't returned it. A better OC will bring a much improved offense with the same old players next season. What are all these Saban suck butts going to do when Saban runs out of Shula's players?
I hope most of the fan will get over with this loss soon. Some of the Miles haters and Saban worshipers are either stupid or morons. Saban is not coming back. Miles is our coach and He has done great things for this program. As a fan, you have to stick with our team and coach. It is easy to be critical, but what you have done for the program lately? The posts that want to get rid of Miles are counter productive to our team. If you look around, other coaches have down years too such as Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Mack Brown, Urban Meyer. Coach Miles record speaks for itself. He is a great coach. If you have experienced Curley Hallman years, you would appreciate a winning coach like Miles.
I think the Saban worshipers are nothing but sheep that are led around by the nose because of the media. It is easy to worship Saban because they only regurgitate what is spoon fed to them by the talking heads on the idiot box. Think about it. The media loves Saban because he is a walking mini drama and he sells ads because the sheep whose worlds revolve around the idiot box stay tuned to find out what is next on "As Saban Turns." Because of the media fascination with Saban there is an inherent popularity. Believing in Saban is the easy and popular thing to do. The LSU fans that drool over Saban want to be like him and - by extension - want to be with him in some Freudian way. They want to be a prick just like him. Conversely, Miles is boring. He's too nice and always does the right thing. He's loyal to his family and employer. He says what he means and he means what he says. As a result, he is not controversial, hence, he is not someone likely to be emulated much. The media tried to orchestrate a drama with Miles and Michigan. Because Miles denied them of this drama in no uncertain terms, he is no longer liked by the media. Miles won't play their game. There is no soap opera with him on the idiot box that keeps eyeballs in front of the tube through the commercial breaks. The Saban worshipers hate Miles. They don't want to be like him because they'd have to be faithful to their wives, nice to their neighbors, and good citizens instead of being self-centered, egotistical, and selfish. Being a Saban fan means they can park in the handicapped spot if they want to. Being a Miles fan means they'd have to walk farther from the parking lot because taking a handicapped spot is not an option from an ethical standpoint.
