correct. now, remove the guys that played in the "steroids era". Who's right behind Mays? Can you name him without looking him up?
Frank Robinson (yeah I had to google it) That's the direction Hammerin' Hank is heading thanks to these guys. I remember when Cecil Fielder hit 51 back in 90-ish. That was considered a pretty big deal back then. Was the 1st time anyone hit 50 since the year before I was born. Over the next 12 years, 50 in a season was done 14 freaking times. So now 50 ain't anywhere near the magical number it once was.
The fact that one of the best all-time players in baseball, Hank Aaron, could a. be forgotten by a new generation b. be only known really for his HR's by the current generation... shows that baseball's addiction to stats is not only tiring, annoying and wrong - but it is killing the game.
I'm guilty of this one as well. Yeah, I know he was a great all around player hit over .300 and all-time leader in HRs. But having never seen the guy play, I can only go off the numbers. Mostly his homers since that's the glory number and gets the most air time. I do go back and look at numbers quite often, but I suck at remembering stuff that I read.
I watched the interview yesterday, not only was fraud being contrite, he has the galls to go in on the reporter from SI. Well guess what she did her job without cheating, he couldnt say the same. The apology was lame.
Are you sure you meant to say that? The only thing A-Fraud is sorry for is getting caught. I think this was a calculated PR move to save his place in baseball history. Fug him... Baseball has been handed a bill and they need to pay the public its check. Mandatory testing of all players, publish all the findings and have meaningful suspensions and bans.
I agree with you, he confessed after being caught. Simple as that. One guy on ESPN said something very interesting yesterday. He said, after the Mitchell report that was supposed to be it, the finaly hammer on steroids. A-Roids name wasnt even mentioned in the report, but Canseco of all people got this right. What else is baseball hiding from the public and was Mitchell brought in for a pr stunt to make it seem like Selig was actually investigating something, when he knew they had these test results in the last drawer in the basement behind the old vending machine?
The Mitchell report is only as good as the snitches. If I remember right, nobody was really interested in talking to Mitchell. This reporter talks to baseball people a lot more often than Mitchell does. So they have better informants. Now they need to just name the other 103 guys from. '03 and get it over with.
I only saw part of the interview. A-Rod kept dodging the question regarding whether he knew he was doing something wrong until confronted with the KC interview. It was like at that point he said to himself "Okay they got me". This is nothing but a spin move but it is a good move on his part. Get it behind him, move on and hope for the best while making millions and millions of $$$$$.
