I agree that the OL and a running game will have a positive effect on the confidence of whoever is QB. Just wish I would have seen a increase in JJ's confidence when he was in a no pressure situation like the spring game.

I dont think an offensive line is JJs problem. That usually helps a qb with happy feet. JJ may end up sleeping with the ball if the line gives him more time. Hell you have to beat it out of him now to get rid of it. id hate to see if he got more comfortable.

maybe they could tase him at practice if he holds it longer than 3 seconds to develop some kind of conditioned response.

Lee is a different case as color blindness has no real cure.

Yeah i tend to agree with you on that one. I don't think the line helped the running game at all last season, but i don't think it was their fault jefferson couldn't get the ball out at times. I saw quite a few times last season where JJ had plenty of time back there, and just started a campfire, broke out the marshmellows, started making smores and singing kumabaya.

one reason for this is the way defenses played each QB.

it was pretty well known that Lee would throw it into coverage.
so defense sat back and waited for him to screw up. and he did.
that scheme is the reason he threw multiple picks to linebackers.

with JJ, defenses now know that he doesn't make quick decisions.
so they stack the box to take away the run, and pressure him knowing he'll probably take a sack.

That was my point. Intensity in practice carries over to the games.

did anyone else notice that when Lee threw an int, that the other ten guys on the team just seemed to quit....do they know that you just went from o to d. at times, it looked not only did they quit but did all but block for the opposition.

For Lee, he was just bad. The throw was either perfect, or BAD. No middle ground.

I can buy into your point about how the D's played, but only partially. We were always forced to throw on run plays like 2nd and short or 3rd and short because we just couldn't run the ball..

Another point in response to the "LSU was 9th in passing in the SEC"

LSU also had the 3rd to last in passing attempts, only to be ahead of Ken at 326 and Miss state at 265.

Though, the main focus on this forum are QB's and coaching. Not counting the huge fact that LSU was 2nd to last in rushing.

Also second to last in possession time.

JJ is part of a team that HAS to help each other out. We will never have a good passing game with no threat of a rush, PERIOD. Also, we will never have a good running game without the threat of a passing game.

JJ can pass, he has done it, we have seen it and we have damn good WR's.

JJ and Lee can both give ample threat of a pass, any team that doesn't respect them back there will get burned, but we have to have a run game this year......

I know myself, and more, wanted to see better improvement from game to game with JJ, but that's just not as realistic as it may seem. It is hard for a QB of that age, (YES AGE is a big factor), and maturity level to just correct all the bad things they did in high school in one week. The off season is where he can make big strides. As it was pointed out on another thread, JJ has seemed to match up well with RS. Thats all we need. JJ didn't have that connection with any receiver last year and it will help so much this year. The offence as a whole last year was not in sync, but it seems that this year, JJ is more in tune with his receivers, particularly RS.

In this league, seasonal experience really matters and helps.
