Crowton's offense seems the most complicated scheme I've ever seen. I'm betting that experience, coaching, and playing time will help a lot.

I'm also betting that the offense will morph a bit to match the skills of the players - more option work with fullback dives than this year now that our FB/TB Hester has graduated.

But you gotta love that we only lose one OL, get Dickson back, a stable of good RBs and WRs, and a QB who we now know can get it done if he keeps his nugget on straight. Very excited about the O next year.

Defense might also be better than many of us fear, especially if the LB and CBs mature quickly. I think DL will be damned good.

Yeah I agree with Crunch, all year long we've been saying Crowton doesn't use a FB in the traditional sense in his offense. Looks like maybe if Ridley bulks up just a bit and can be that bruiser short yardage back, he can fill that role.

Losing Hester is gonna be tough because you knew on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1, he could get it. But it was Hester's style that put us in so many short yardage situations. With Hester in the backfield we would march up the field really slow gaining 3 yards a play but with a Williams, Scott or Murphy we can expect bigger gains more often and hopefully we won't have so many short yardage situations because drives won't always have to consist of so many plays; does that make sense or am I just crazy? But I also think RP can take over that short yardage pick up ala Tebow

As for that play against Kentucky, I too seem to remember one of Kentucky's guys being there in the backfield to make the stop. Sometimes it doesn't matter who you are running the ball. If it's a play that the defense guesses correctly, it's tough to still make it work. I don't care what LSU back you are - Hester, Scott, Faulk, Addai, etc.

Of course, Trindon probably would have busted it to the outside, juked 4 players out of their shoes, then three more, and zip right into the endzone! He gots da speed.

Couldn't agree more. Anybody catch that pancake block him threw on one of OSUs D-lineman on LSU's first FG drive?

I think you are dead on.

Our drives will consist of fewer plays as Perrilloux will stretch the field vertically. And as you alluded to, Perrilloux and that hard to defend option play will be an excellent call on short yardage plays.

I don't think I'd say Hester was to blame for our short yardage situations... LSUSports.net Stats Page shows Hester averaged 4.9 yards/carry this year!

This year's seniors have set the bar for future Tiger teams. The 2008 class should KNOW what is expected of them. Talent, no matter how great, will only take you up the mountain. It's the little things, like laying out an onrushing D player, getting that extra yard and playing as a TEAM that will get you to the other side! :thumb:

I'm with Crunch. The O looks very good next year. I am not concerned about Scott as the power back. Ok, he got nailed at Ky on one play. He made lots of others. He's a soph and he will learn from that mistake. He will be better as a Jr. You learn, you mature, you get better. I said the same thing about JaMarcus, and he got better every year. It happens.

I like the prospects for next year's offense. We are loaded at running back--Hester will be missed, but hell, there are times that Billy Cannon is still missed. However LSU will not suffer a drop-off at RB. Scott is a power runner with speed, Williams is a speed runner with power. Holliday is a blazing speed runner with moves, Murphy has the best blend of speed, moves, and power and just needs to see the ball more. Crowton will have many tools at running back.

There will not be a drop-off at quarterback. Perrilloux will be an experienced and talented QB in his fourth year at LSU. He had better stats than Flynn in his limited playing time and won both his starts including an MVP trophy at the SECCG. We have a couple of youngsters who we will start to see, but it will be Perrilloux's year to shine. I think he will be very shiny.

Zinger's blocking will be missed at tight end, but Dickson will be an All American next year. There will be no drop-off at TE, but we will not have the depth we were used to last season. We may see fewer multiple TE sets and some very green young TE's.

Doucet will also be missed, but LSU again will not suffer a drop-off at wide receiver. LaFell, Byrd and Tolliver all seem destined for the NFL and will not be so green next season. Several newer guys with impressive resumes are waiting for a chance to play. Perrilloux will have many targets next year.

Carnell Stewart hung in for five years and finally got to play his senior season and win the BCS game. Young Barksdale will step up and there should be no drop-off. The other four starters all return including Black and Johnson who are potential All-Americans. Depth will be very young, but talented.

The offense will be potent in 2008 and can run and pass the football. It will be very speedy at all positions and feature a distinguished offensive line. OC Gary Crowton will again have many tools to work with and very few weaknesses to work around.

    Damn strong football team.
