After reading a lot of the post I have a question or two about young QB's First, when, who and how many fresh or shop QB's have won a SEC champ? And with a HONEST comparison to first year fresh/soph QB's WITH OUT A SENIOR/Junior's LEADERSHIP, how does JJ rank? The junior/ senior leadership is something that RP would have been doing, but we all know how that turned out, but it had to have made a huge impact on our QB progression at some point, right?
He came through as a RS soph with a 44-0 win over MTSU and a 21-14 win in the SECCG. 20 of 30 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown. Never won a Heisman but...hehe
I know what RP did. I was more talking about a fresh/soph who started a season and lead his team to one.
David Greene. SEC Freshman of the Year in 2001 and SECCG MVP as a sophomore in 2002. He is the only one I can think of in recent years. Rex Grossman won as a sophomore in 2000, I think. Mauck was a freshman when he came in for an injured Davey in the SECCG in 2001, but he didn't start the year. Either way, both of those guys had upperclassman leadership.
Tebow won a national championship as a freshman, he played a pretty big role his freshman year, even though he wasn't the starter. But..... Chris Leak did nothing against LSU that year, Tebow beat us. David Greene won the SECCG as a Sophomore in 2002. it is rare though, but i will do you one better, how many teams with virtually no running game won the SEC?
Yea, it is soph not shop. I F things up a lot of times as I post from my phone. I abbreviate to much I guess and often fat finger buttons. My bad.
