Guess we'll find out soon enough, huh? You're right, though, Lee does seem to be making the correct pre-snap reads. Unfortunately, QB is a position that you learn the most from mistakes (ALL QB's, not just Lee) and no starting QB over an entire season has been "INT free" so for anyone worried, the odds of Lee throwing a few more are highly likely--it just comes with the territory. My guess is that he'll make a pre-snap read based on what he THINKS the defense is doing and ultimately get picked off. Once that happens, it'll be time to see how he responds and the way he either corrects this mistake later in the game or makes it again will show his resolve.
That is exactly what happened during the MSU game. He read man when it was zone. MSU disguised the zone.
Well, he's bounced back decent enough then I'd say. No picks since. But seriously, yeah, great example was MSU. I think MSU has an under-rated defense (no, not spectacular...just under-rated) with some gamers. Bama has more. And a very good defensive-minded coach that will no doubt disguise coverages almost all game long. //but that's the ONLY positive thing I'll say about Bama: That their defense will no doubt be the best we've seen (next to our own) and they'll try their arses off to confuse Lee.
I prefer when he leans back to throw because the alternative is when he jumps back to throw. You can't argue with the results so far this season though. But I can't understand how a guy who's been in the program so long still makes the mistake of a five year old over and over. It's odd.
and has a dad that's a QB coach on the college level to boot!  eh! He's getting results.
Wow! I got major heat last week for pointing out my concerns about JL's back foot throwing, locking on to one WR, and how it may hurt us as we hit the meat of our SEC schedule, but bhelm mentions it and all is good? LOL. Bottom line is Lee has exceeded a lot of my own expectations this season and I hope he continues on that track, but I have my reservations. He threw a 29 yd pass to RR before halftime of the Northwestern game (I believe it was that game). He was in the shotgun, threw off his back foot, then actually ducked as if someone was going to hit him, but there was not a defender within 5 yards of him. If it works, it works, but I hold my breath every time he throws it.
Depends on how you define results. Has Lee been somewhat consistent and played within himself? Yes Is he getting Ws? Yes but so did JJ. We still have a lackluster offense that is statistically rated at the bottom of the NCAA. We all know we have to get a little more out of the offense if we want to win this thing. I think We will see the results we need out the offense to be right where we need to be at the end of the season. Mix in some big plays and open up the running game even more. No letdown games from the defense and continue to have short fields to work with.
I realize this is a thread about Lee, and my intent is not to derail... Just an overall comment about the offense, I think what we have seen thus far in the early going is typical of CLM. Very conservative, close to the vest. Once we get into the meat of the SEC schedule, the playbook opens up. If history is any indicator, perhaps we see some new wrinkles starting this week. :geauxtige
New wrinkle, how about a screen to the RB, or hit the RB's out in the flats, or Ware/Blue on a wheel route? From here on out, if our Offense stays this course, we are going to see defenses stack the box, dare us to throw and become very aggressive with blitzes to bring pressure to Lee. Of course, we should be used to seeing that defensive strategy from opposing teams.......... it's the one everyone has used against LSU the last 4 seasons.
We're the 11th offense in total scoring. The reason our offensive stats aren't awesome is because they aren't padded. We've been working with a short field all year long. I don't see how you can call an offense that has scored 35+ points in all but 1 game this year "lackluster". As far as JJ getting W's, at least 3 of JJ's "W's" were off of Lee's back last year.
